    First Emira Breakdown?

#bulletdodged indeed! What a huge dissapointment this would be. That would suck all the fun out of my new toy! Looks like I made a smart decision getting out and possibly considering a slightly used one in a year or two!! If they get things sorted out that is...:)

I agree. I wonder though whether the appeal will be as keen in a few years?

Yep I think you are spot on, that's why I left the party.

Not even gunna try to say yes...:) I see on Youtube that the exotic car rental places shy away from McLaren because of the cost of both maintenance and parts! To be honest it's above my pay-grade anyway, $100k more or less is about all I want to spend on a car. I'm not in the $300k+ crowd...

And I've heard McLaren maintenance is EXPENSIVE!!

You know what? After experiencing the "que" I'm gunna let everyone else chase the z06 and Eray. If I get the z51 package it is only a hair slower than those two. Sure you don't get that high revving flat plane of the Z06 or the cool jet whine of the Eray but for around $100k I can spec the...

I was looking at that but decided on a c8 convertible even though I can't get a stick. Love that Caddy though, enjoy..:) See this is what happens if you have to wait years for a car. You wind up with a different one!!

Still don't like the fugly butt however you can't argue with the performance of the upcoming eray.

It has supermodel looks and terrific handling. It hooked me for sure and I put down a deposit right away. Sadly though when you take a serious look at the alternatives albeit sans manual trans, there is a lot of stuff out there that you can get without the ambiguous delivery date and...

How we approach moderating on the forum

I may be guilty of straying off course (when properly baited ..:) ) but I always strive to keep my posts respectful and lighthearted. I just hope the oversight doesn't become something resembling Fakebook.

I dunno if you want to go this far away but Nikki@EurocarsOC was wonderful to work with. No bs about $5k and/or additional deposit required. And should you decide to pull out they happily credit your $2500 back to your card. Good luck! Moderator note: part of post copied to different thread

How we approach moderating on the forum

Moderator note: copied from another thread to start a discussion on how we approach moderation on the forum What's with the power trip of some moderator's deleting posts? That never happened to me until we got some additions to the police force here?

That was a funny movie!! "Road Hog", not the name of the Laurel n Hardy flick but one of 3 vignettes in the story. Worth looking up..:)

    Lotus Communications

Boy what a cluster-f. The frustration has clearly become unbearable and it doesn't appear there is any urgency on Lotus' part to remedy things. I am more satisfied that I made a good decision in pulling out because if this is the level of "customer care" that seems to be acceptable by Lotus...

2023 - A full year of hobbies while waiting for Lotus...

Ah you youngin's all this workin' out n stuff. I did a bunch of that over the years. Back then I never considered walking any kind of work out but now that I'm getting older at 67 I find walking much easier on the joints than running which I only do if I think something that wants to eat me is...

I'm out - the cancellations thread

Time will tell, I think those good ol' gas powered, manual transmission sports cars will be around at least for the remainder of my driving years. The youngsters will never get to understand that complete experience of sound, smell, feel and overall connection of being one with the car. They...

I'm wondering that as people discover how unrealistic the frantic push to "green" is, that companies such as Ford will continue to manufacture ICE vehicles along with some electric. And look at Porsche's investment in alternate fuels. My guess is we will still have a selection of fun ICE cars...

I've reduced my stress by cancelling my deposit and keeping that money working for me! I'm betting that by the time I would be getting a car there will be plenty of slightly used ones up for sale..:)

    What is your Emira's purpose?

My plan exactly!! Now that I've dropped off the list though I'll need to see what's available at the end of '23..:)

Yep who wants to buy a car that has lots of problems no matter how fun it can be?!!
  26. Pops68

McLaren admits: 'Actually all our cars are just bad'

Why do people keep insisting on comparing the Emira to cars costing 2-3x as much? And while there have been niggling little problems such as the weather stripping and seat belts I haven't heard about any serious issues so how would that put the Artura "light years ahead" of the Emira?

The great big "all the customer test drives" thread

A quick peak at Harry's showed some "looseness" on the seat bottom. I also saw it on a couple of the demo cars. That's a shame.
  29. Pops68

What's the appeal? (Emira and Porsche)

Yep Porsches are a dime a dozen here in so Calif. Same with Tesla. I wanted something that stands out from the crowd and the Emira fit that bill perfectly. Too bad the wait was so long.

I didn't even make it to the order point but it is my understanding that when they call you to place your order and give your specs, putting down some more money and signing an actual purchase contract that is when things become "non-refundable". Makes sense to me since your order is now in the...

Dunno but should my financial position get to where I want it she will be the first person I contact for a new car! That's the value in great service and yep, Lotus would be well served to take note!

    Further delays?

My money is on "horse shit"..:)
  34. Pops68

    Further delays?

Lotus is stuck in a scenario they created and are responsible for. Don't write checks you can't cash and then keep making up stories about how it can be cashed "soon".

I like to give props to people when they do right and here's to Nikki at EurocarOC who, after talking me off the fence once promptly credited my deposit back to my card on my final decision to cancel. I'm bummed but I'm thinking this is the best for 2 reasons: first I get to retire $3k in...

I'm out - the cancellations thread

I'm sure you're right but I kind of resent the idea of paying nearly $100k for a car then having to shell out a few thousand more to make it deliver the power it should have in the first place, not to mention voiding my warranty. Hard pass for me!

    USA/Canada Delivery Thread

Unless you're in the big cities they don't worry much about it here in So. Calif. I never ran one on my Corvette because it would have covered 30% of the air intake...and it ruined the look of the front imo!
