Anyone from the Raleigh area going tomorrow (Sat, June 3rd)? I expect to see quite a few Lotus cars there!
8am-11am - more details below.

I have gotten comments from several friends with more expensive vehicles with much bigger engines (BMW 650i, AMG S63) that said my comparatively humble 340i ZHP sounds significantly better than theirs. Engine/exhaust note is honestly the single biggest factor why I'm not a fan at all of EVs...
If Lotus had somehow managed to put a BMW B58 into the Emira it would have been sick. The capabilities of that engine are remarkable and I LOVE how it sounds in my F30 with the M performance exhaust. 500WHP+ is fairly easy with just a few bolt-on mods and a couple thousand bucks.
That said...
And yet I'd be willing to be 90%+ of the cars WILL be men driving with ladies in the passenger seat. This is absolutely a car targeted at the male market. It's reality, not sexism.
That seems a bit over the top. Lotus is for anything but the wannabees. I'd say people drag racing their Tesla Model 3s or sliding their Hellcats off the roads would better fit that description than a true driver's car, even if it isn't as powerful as you'd hope it to be.
The Emira and Evora are virtually identical in weight and size. Same engine, drivetrain, etc. So I don't think it is that simple. That's why I'm perplexed that the Evora runs 3.8 and people seem to have trouble getting under 5 seconds in the Emira.
I've been wondering the same thing for awhile now. I haven't seen any clear explanations as to why the Emira seems to underperform vs. the Evora in terms of acceleration. It'll be interesting to see how it performs as it is delivered to U.S. buyers. Hopefully closer to 4 seconds than 5...

I spoke to my dealer a few minutes ago and the word from them is still late Q4 2023-early Q1 2024 for first FEs in the U.S. but he also admittedly said they haven't heard any material updates from Lotus since the meeting in California in March.
I noticed it was written by Hannah Elliott and the article definitely sounds like it was written by a lady the way it is worded. Re-read the article now that you know that and it'll all click. Take this excerpt, for example:
"It looks as if it came from a fashion shoot: Front-wheel arches...
I dunno, I just drove a Porsche 911 Carrera a couple weeks ago for funsies and while it was awesome, it didn't deter me from my excitement for the Emira. It drove fantastic and was a blast but it's just too 'ordinary' around here and not once did I seriously think I'd take it over the Emira and...
Since @Hell4Leather rekindled this old thread that I had never seen I thought I'd chime in a bit. I personally really enjoy the turbo spool sound and recently tied to make my 340i B58 a bit more boisterous with a new intake. The supercharger whine is definitely new to me. I am pretty sure I...
I couldn't help but notice the dreaded 'wheel gap' seems very much gone in his vehicle after 4500 miles. I guess the suspension has finally settled in? Looks very appropriate compared to some of the new deliveries for those of us with 'wheel-gap-phobia' :)
On my test drive I noticed I couldn't hear the exhaust very much at all (mostly the supercharger whine as Magicman noted) but once I rolled down the windows it was a totally different experience. I almost wish there wasn't so much sound dampening in the cabin because I'm a huge fan of exhaust...
This was exactly my situation. I always loved Lotus and really thought the Evora would be super fun to own and was trying to get past the super dated interior when I came upon the Emira. Then it was pretty much a done deal. Such a special car.
For what it's worth, the demo car I test drove here in the USA about a month ago had the same issue during my test drive. In my first 2 minutes trying to pull out onto a busy road in traffic it kept stalling and said "Reduced Acceleration". At first I thought "man I really forgot how to drive...
As a Bimmer fan and owner, I still can't believe how BMW is managing to make such hideous cars. I won't be buying any more anytime soon. I wouldn't care if it were $40K. Maybe I put too much into looks over price/performance but I just can't get past this one.
I'm 2 hours away from the nearest Lotus dealership so this kind of story is disheartening. I hope it's an isolated issue that they get fixed for you quickly.
I have to agree with you on this 100%. While some may think that the obsession with wheel gap is nonsense, to me it has a major impact on the appearance of the vehicle. TBH I never was a big 'can't have wheel gap' kind of guy until a couple years ago when I got my current 340i and someone said...
I'd like to hear thoughts on this as well as I'm still considering changing my spec from Touring to Sport. I test drove the touring version and it was great but I could easily handle it a bit stiffer if it provides a sportier experience yet still handles potholes well enough. I remain quite...
Did they give a particular reason? I would suspect that means that your car is already in the build process or complete? It might also mean the AMGs are pretty far out and they don't want to 'lose' a buyer that's otherwise locked-in? Did you get a build date?
This is great to hear. During my Emira test drive here in the US they wouldn't let us go into track mode at ALL (supposedly due to liability reasons) and I was pretty disappointed by that. If the difference between Sport and Track is anything close to my BMW 340i "Comfort" vs. Sport mode, I...
Well for what it's worth, after meeting up with you a few weeks back in Wilmington I totally had you pegged in your mid 40s or somewhere thereabouts so you're doing something right!!!
Thanks for posting this. I test drove the Nimbus black pack/wheels that looked like the one on the right and the one on the left is what I have spec'd. I've never been a big fan of black wheels and seeing them side by side just cements my decision a bit further so I appreciate it. There is no...
The big difference between those two is the dark interior of the diamond cut wheels (which I love) but I don't like the gaps on the perimeter. So for me, I have to go with the silver wheels but if I could choose, I'd do the diamond cut with the full silver perimeter like the mock up above. To...
Gorgeous car, @Bilbao-Emira. Am I the only one that wished they offered the diamond cut wheels with the full silver perimeter? I love the style of them but I have issues with the dark perimeter sections. It's been one of the areas in which I remain conflicted.
2 minute mockup of what I wish...
I get the logic behind the statement but I think most carbon fiber accents on cars could fall into this category when they aren't meaningful in terms of weight reduction. As an example, my BMW came with a carbon fiber package (mirrors, spoiler, exhaust tips, etc.) but IMO it's pretty much just...
Everyone has their own priorities and goals in life. COULD I have bought an Emira in my 20s? Sure, but I wouldn't have been able to justify it at that age as I was still building my career and financial stability. Cars are not a good financial investment the vast majority of the time. Heck...
