I'm in that 'new vs old' argument. I could get an R8 V10 for not much more a month than what the emira would now cost me but with that comes used car pitfalls..
Exactly. If we're now looking at 85k OTR for an Emira FE, surely the Emira S and GT are going to be circa 100k? And what engine are they going to use, the V6 is expensive to tune and the gearbox holds it back to 400-410bhp.
I think thats part of the problem. I think Lotus want to be moving on to the Emira S and the other varients with probably bigger sticker prices so arent too fussed if people cancel their FE.
I'm sat here thinking 'is the emira really a £85k car for a manual V6 with 400bhp? I know you can say, 'thats just the price of cars these days' but it really does start to push it towards another bracket.
I'm really tempted to cancel now but will sleep on it. I could go out and by an M4 with the ultimate spec for about 80-85k. Not only are stock cars available but the APR is also only 4.9%. The Evora is starting to look like a bargain now at roughly 25k cheaper than the Emira.
I think they're basing it on build date. My build date is 'currently' scheduled for June 2023, after the price increase. Which is interesting, because if I sign the finance agreement BEFORE the build date, then surely it should be the pre-june price?
Just got my email saying that my car is affected by the price increase. Just went back on the configurator and its about an extra 4k over when I placed the deposit. Getting so fed up now with this on top of the constant delays and APR increases that I'm really just thinking about walking away...
Shock! Horror! Suprise!
Received my 'update' email and given the last email said my car was "confirmed" for June production and the new email says its "confirmed" for July production I can only presume Lotus don't know what confirmed actually means.
Its always swings and roundabouts. Someone else has taken the hit with depreciations versus having to run an older car etc. I'm only expecting to do around 6-8k per year as it's my second car and my thinking is that I'd get a manual R8 Gen 1 (prefer the styling over gen2) and allow a good...
This is true and I think it shows just how price sensitive the Emira is going to be. At 60-80k it kinda makes sense for a new car in a niche category, but it doesn't have the pull for 90-100K. That price bracket gets you into some very interesting cars, particularly if you're not bothered about...
I know someone who purchased a new Range Rover and they said they werent allowed to sell it within the first six months of ownership except back to the dealer. Dont know how accurate/true that is, but I can't imagine Lotus doing the same. I suspect its posted above, if they get wind you're going...
This is really interesting as thats pretty much my spec and I've been quoted June 23 delivery having placed my deposit in Aug '21. I'm wondering if they're wanting to cut the tail off the V6 orders rather than those who placed their order earlier.
How do Lotus envision enforcing such a policy? If after taking delivery of my car I lose my job, the second car Lotus will be the first thing to go. Unless Lotus are going to offer a buy-back scheme I'd argue they're going to struggle.
Especially when a Lotus main dealer has an Emira currently...
