Hi, it's quite some time since I've posted here and over a year since I've done any painting. Festive break saw me back art the easel and enjoying it once i'd blown the cobwebs away.
The Nimbus Emira painting, last featured here when half finished...
Absolute Lotus magazine has run a nice feature on my Lotus Emira art in this month's edition of their fabulous publication. The editor, Adam Wilkins, and I had a great chat at The Motoring Literary & Art Festival at Silverstone in December, which turned into a full-blown interview.
The silver...
Here are some photos of Emira themed Christmas gifts from my thoughtful family.
1:18 scale resin cast Emira model by Top Speed- quality is excellent, made all the better by not having opening doors so the shutlines are nice and tight.
Smallest one is an Emira keyring, feels incredibly heavy...
I've driven in zero degrees with frost and in torrential rain - car never feels less than surefooted. As you would expect, all the contact patches are optimised and working as they should, touring chassis and Goodyears no doubt helping too.
Everything works that needs to work in these...
Hi all, sorry to be so late posting this but life has been crazy busy. The @motoringliteraryartfestival
www.motorlitartfest.co.uk kicked off yesterday at Silverstone and continues today. I'm displaying my Dark Verdant Emira painting and working live on the Nimbus Silver canvas. I have 2 pairs...
Those of you who have been on the forum for a while will be familiar with my original Emira paintings. While I am still not in a position to produce prints (current blocker is a licensing issue as the images of the cars include the trademarked Lotus badge, apparently), I have been invited to...
Hi, a noise has developed over last few weeks and wondered if anyone has similar and had it diagnosed/sorted?
Heard for some time after start-up, it's like a sqeaking or cheeping, chirruping noise. Engine speed related, seems a bit louder under load and still there if clutch dipped and/or in...
21 months after placing my deposit she is sitting in my driveway and I couldn't be happier.
Full spec: Dark Verdant, tan Leather, silver alloys, yellow calipers, touring chassis, manual gearbox, delete privacy glass, alcantara steering wheel.
Below I'll take you through the collection and...
Hi everyone, hope you are all well.
I've been absent on here since September last year, having been a regular thread starter and poster until then, including many regarding my Emira paintings which I'll come to in a bit.
The short update is I am still in. So "in" that I should be collecting my...
Many of you will be familiar with the process by now, here are the key stages in getting Nimbus from the screen hand-drafted onto the canvas, pre-prepared with 3 coats of gesso.
This represents about 6 hours work, precision in everything is vital otherwise I'm painting on shaky foundations...
Hi everyone, making some good headway on image capture and reproduction now (as well as starting the Nimbus painting tonight).
Below are photos of the first full-size proofs (roughly trimmed - ignore the border size), these are printed on the same stock as the final items, a 315gsm fine art...
It's that crazy shape-shifter, Nimbus!
While I'm excited to paint Magma, I've already completed 3 pretty intense colours so it was time for something more neutral and Nimbus won over Shadow because:
A. It's more popular
B. I'm saving a dark, intense treatment for the Shadow painting until...
I promised you some photos of the 3 completed works together, here they are, shot just before they left for digital capture this morning, hence working until 01:30 last night to complete Seneca.
I photographed them positioned in different sequences, while they may rarely all be seen together it...
If you are my age or close to it you'll remember Daley Thompson, Britain's almost untouchable Decathlon Superhero. I say almost untouchable, his main rival, Jurgen Hingsen, was German; where have we heard that before?!
Linford Christie was all about straightline speed - that was what his event...
Prompted by @freefall_junkie and @digilotus talking about music (great chat in "Emira Review Index" thread on that, kicked by the Moroder C16 connection!), so what are your favourite tracks for evaluating hi-fi?
When buying a good quality range of Denon components (must be over 20 years ago...)...
There are many well-considered analyses of the Emira reviews on this forum, which gives a great breadth of perspective - what a tremendous resource for us all to have! A bit like the reviews themselves, there is pretty much one to align with your preconceived view - whatever that may be...
I am...
Like all other FE photos these are highly light sensitive when shot and screen sensitive when viewed, the one with the Ice Grey interior is either over-exposed or has a ton of sun hitting it but soooooo nice to see!

Hi, someone posted on FB about the drivers academy and this image really caught my eye - DV has never looked better! (It actually looks GREEN and it's not even bright sunlight  )
This is one of Lotus's own images and this section of the site has great shots of Hethel and Magma too -...
Hi, as a follow up to my colour descriptions and comments after seeing them first hand, here are some thoughts on the personality or perceived attributes of each colour (link to original post below)
Thread 'First Edition colours - first-hand impressions...'...
Having seen cars complete, or near complete in all colours yesterday, my thoughts are below:
Hethel Yellow - exactly as I expected it to be meaning most photos have been representative. When i was mixing the colour for my painting of a Hethel Yellow Emira...
elle être - "she is"
That's what Google translate told me when I figured eletre could also be "elle etre" in French - quite apt for the birth of a new car declaring "She is!"
Okay, it's a bit like Dr. Frankenstein declaring his monster is alive but we'll gloss over that!
This is a BIG car, but...
No rest for the wicked, as they say.
Dark Verdant next, partly because it's so popular, mainly because my own DV Emira will be arriving in a few months!
I'm sticking with an extremely simple background again - why the heck would I add anything to distract from the Emira? However, instead of...
We've all got over the heavier than expected weight of the Emira but I think Lotus made a very clever shift in philosophy and strategy by doing this that has not been discussed very much here or anywhere else...
Lightness costs money. It takes more time to design and it generally uses more...
Hi, you may (or most likely may not!) remember me mentioning I will be creating some paintings of the Emira.
The below is the source image for my first painting - after playing about with the configurator and creating my own deliberately simple and stylised background this is what I'll be...
Trying to deconstruct the Emira design and understand why it appeals to us all so much is not easy. Has anyone noticed that no-one is raving about any single aspect as the main highlight or reason it looks so good? "It's the intakes" "It's the rear deck" It's the profile..." Nope.
In my view...
It recently occurred to me that Seneca Blue is very like French racing blue, see photos below. The Jaguar colour is actually called "French Racing Blue" and the Renault Gordini is in a typical French racing blue.
You can read up on all the National Racing colours here...
Hi, you may have heard Russell Carr and others mention this but wondered what they mean or why this happens? Is it because the silver is simply brighter than black (and the dual-tone diamond cut) so appears larger? Well there is probably a small element of this going on; when light hits the...
Good evening/morning/afternoon - select according to time-zone. (G'day if you're in Australia!)
Well it's done!!! After weeks and months of agonizing I have made my choices - here's what they are and why, along with a screenshot.
Colour - Dark Verdant: classy, British and Lotus. If it's a...
I stumbled across this today, I'll leave you to do the same double-take I did when it popped up.
Glad to see someone at Corvette has a sense of humour and is a shrewd marketeer - "If you like the blue Emira show car, why not buy one of these...?"
Hi fellow Emira fans, for me the reasons for the black pack and black roof that goes with it are two-fold.
1. The black roof visually lowers the car. It definitely does this, but having seen the car in the flesh this is no longer essential for me - looks plenty low enough.
2. It is an integral...
I really liked it. Yes it's clearly pre-production but I can see past that. Access and egress easy (none of us are getting any younger...) it felt cosy without being cramped, very cleanly styled and refreshingly uncluttered. Frankly, I'd pay for the KEF audio just for the speaker grilles!
I...
I was at the viewing at Parks of Hamilton (Scotland) on Friday afternoon - wow!
The only "Junior" Supercar aspect of the Emira is the engine type and straight-line performance - make no mistake, in the flesh the Emira has Supercar looks and presence.
In my eyes, this is the most accomplished...
Hi, if I've got the emissions figure correct then the RFL costs are as per the below. For I4 (AMG) this means £555 in year one (a chunk less than the V6) and £490 in years 2-6 (£155 plus £335) then £155 thereafter, subject to any increases in the interim. Please feel free to correct if I've got...
I have been agonising over which image of the Emira to reproduce on canvas - so many great ones to choose from as it does not have a bad angle! The design is a real work of which I am inspired to reproduce in a similar style to my recent painting of the legendary Lancia 037.
So which Emira...
Hi, much as it would be pretty special to have a first edition, a few comments on here have me wondering:
1. Are they only available with the Toyota V6?
2. I've read there will be a £12k - £15k premium, based on a package of extras worth a few £K more than that - is that correct? (this would...
Hi, I've been playing with the configurator (again!). Lots of people (including JB) have been suggesting Dark Verdant with Tan leather, which I'm sure will look great but just feels a little "trad" for such a cutting edge car.
So, I tried Dark verdant with Black Pack contrast roof, silver...
Greetings around the globe, whichever timezone you are in! It's G&T o'clock in Edinburgh - but only after I've completed this post...
I was talking to my local dealer the other day, the topic of colours came up and what new colours may be offered for the Emira - apparently the online...
Hi all, I guess we are a pretty excited bunch of guys?!!! (and gals?)
Lifelong petrolhead, got it from my dad and gave it to my son. Current cars below - 17 year-old 996 C4S with 152,000 miles on it, 120,000 of which are mine - daily driver for the last 11 years. Awesomely capable and versatile...
