Hello. Just a general ‘small displacement very high output turbo’ thing - never ever lug a high boost high output small displacement engine as it is more likely to pre-detonate and hurt the ring lands/pistons etc etc. my Civic Type R is OK/happy at 2200 rpm in top gear but no lower (2 liter...
I’ll add a couple things (this in not Emira specific it’s what I do with my other toy cars):
1. I always run a dehumidifier in the garage (my garage doesn’t go below freezing)
2. I put lots of commercial mouse bait traps near my cars
3. I always fill the gas tank full to prevent condensation...
One thing that some folks don’t seem to understand (mostly the average person who really isn’t into engineering or engines) is that there is no way that a manufacturer can make an I4 turbo sound ‘as good or better’ as a V6, or I6 (or V8, or V10, V12 etc). The exhaust pulses/firing order are...
Here in the USA we used to use a product called 3M Window Weld. Back when I was drag racing FWD cars (as a 20-something!) this was something you’d do to prevent wheel hop on launch and driveline whiplash. It did have a negative effect on NVH inside the cabin but we didn’t care. A tube of 3M...
JP__Fox —— thanks for the vid upload! Also wanted to say very nice driving my friend!! I’m a driver coach (USA mostly East Coast tracks) and I really liked your hand position (and nice quiet hands on the wheel). The braking looked nice and composed (were those the factory stock pads?). And...
Hey Maurice - I just had rotator cuff surgery on my left shoulder 9 weeks ago. I started physical therapy 5 weeks ago and am starting to really improve finally (2 weeks ago was the first time I could drive a manual transmission again without major issues). Of the various surgical repairs I’ve...
This is not Emira specific, but on my turbocharged race Honda Civic (K24/20 with EFR7163) I get a similar flutter/surge at certain rpm’s only in certain gears. I attributed it to different loads in different gears (even though the rpm is the same). For instance, 2000 rpm in 6th (say 55 mph)...
Funny story - in 1990 I bought a lightly used (9k miles) 1985 Turbo Esprit (red with tan interior. It was amazing looking). This was the very last year of the turbo-carbureted engine combo (next year they went to fuel injection). I was CONSTANTLY fiddling with the car to keep everything...
I looked at that one in MA closely too (I’ve got an order in for a DV 6sp Emira and figured that it would be a nice fill-in til my car comes in next year, then I’d trade it/sell it). My reasons for not pulling the trigger on it: 1. even though almost no miles, the warranty is almost gone...
Hey guys. I have a DV V6 6sp manual on order; but I’m also a fan of all sorts of cars and don’t like seeing them falsely accused/maligned. (I actually own a Corvette too, and have for a long time. Mine is a 1990 C4 ZR-1, triple black, 9k original miles. Incredible car for it’s time (and has...
Thanks! At least here in the United States we are the only team that is racing door-to-door in electrified vehicles. Yes, these are custom designed from the ground up by a small shop called Entropy Racing. The cars really are amazing to drive and really fun and exciting. And believe me, Im a...
I like the look of it in that pic. 3300 lbs at that power level in EV should deliver mid low 3.X 0-60 mph times and fantastic on the road performance and handling with the ultra low center of gravity. I’d guess at 250ish range when not flogging it. I agree downsides will be no manual trans...
‘Power Shifting’ a manual transmission is extremely abusive. It’s the fastest way to do a 1/4 mile but boy is it hard on a transmission. I had a best buddy back in the 2000s that had a 1989 Mustang LX 5.0 5sp that he drove to work every day and drag races on the weekend. It had light mods...
I think the question ‘how much Hp is the tranny good for’ is very much based on your use scenario. For instance is this a street car which will never see a racetrack? Or is this a car which will see frequent use on tracks every year? I’d bet that if it’s a street car, then the trans could...
I’d agree 100% with you. But here’s another way of looking at it too - you can hop in your bone stock 100% C8Z (or GT3RS, or 675LT etc), drive to the track (enjoying the ride), run it all day long and be one of the fastest cars there (assuming you have talent) and drive to a nice restaurant...
I’ve driven a C8 Stingray Z51 on track and it was fantastic. Super SUPER easy to drive fast and no bad habits (it was totally stock everything except for track alignment done at the dealership). Unbelievably good car on track for ~$90k US. But no manual available, and I already own a Camaro...
My ‘85 Turbo Esprit (with me at the helm at an autox circa 1993ish). The very last turbo carbureted Lotus. Man that car was so fun to drive. But yes it did give me fits with keeping it going (mostly electrical honestly). That was a clean clean design!
I’m with Toomany ^ if you want quick weight reduction swap out the seats for lightweight non power racing seats, and next swap out for some custom light weight wheels (this one is big as it’s rotating mass so twice as noticeable). After that it gets more difficult (maybe lightweight Ti...
That’s exactly how I do it on my Type R. It requires a 16 gb thumb drive and between downloading the maps to the thumb drive and uploading the maps into the car it takes about an hour. I do it once a year in Jan.
I always (me personally) thought that the Evora 400 and later Evora GT priced at + or - $110k here in the USA was overpriced. And sales were quite low here on those models. That was a hard sell.
The Emira with its beautiful exterior and vastly improved interior at $92k is much more in line...
Funny story - back in 1993 I took my ‘85 Turbo Esprit (red/tan with 13k miles on it) to the dealer to test drive a ‘91 NSX that they had just taken in trade. They tossed me the keys and said bring it back later! I drove it all over the local area. It was hands down a ‘better’ car than my...
I went and found it. This was those same guys reviewing the outgoing Evora GT up in the canyons. He seemed much more enthusiastic about the Lotus than the 911 T. I’m really really excited to see what they think of about the Emira when they get it out there.
These guys do a pretty comprehensive explanation of all the options and differences on the 912 T vs S vs GTS.
The review seemed like they were slightly better than luke warm on it. They did a review a while back on the Evora GT and raved about it. I’m real curious to see what they say...
The skipping when parking is most likely the LSD being tight/aggressive. When making maneuvers like that with my Camaro ZL1 1LE there is all sorts of knocking/ratcheting from out back (especially with the GY 3Rs on there. I promptly bought another set of wheels/tires and mounted Falken RT...
That and don’t forget about the effect of improved aero and/or downforce on lap times. I’d be surprised if the all new design of the Emira hasn’t improved on the Evora significantly (the Evora body is quite aged now)
Just a data point - during my test drive (which was mostly slower speeds and some stop and go in lower gears) I heard zero gear rattle. And I know what it sounds like (I own an original 9k mile 1990 Corvette ZR-1; those are famous for loud transmission rattle (which goes away the instant you...
I have something to add; this is in no way a direct comparison, as I’m not cross shopping these two cars (although the pricing isn’t far off). Firstly, I have a deposit down on a V6 6sp Emira, and test drove one in NJ last Saturday and loved it. Two days ago I was asked by my employer to...
