Here's what I tried to post in the comments section and was rejected - of course:

What an absolutely pathetic excuse for a "news article". Paul Hockenos' error plagued POS is made so much worse by his pathetic attempt to link the joy of driving with overdone machismo. Why do you take umbrage to something many of us enjoy? What harm is it doing you? Don't say manual transmissions are a detriment to the environment. As others have stated, they almost ALWAYS have better MPG ratings than their automatic siblings. Not certain what career path you should take but this isn't it!

Everyone has their own opinions, and his opinions don’t ruffle my feathers too much

What I do find a bit strange is that he is a gay man with a “husband”, and he’s alluding to closeted homosexuality being one of the reasons why “mostly men” love driving a stick… and citing Sigmund Freud with his… attempt at humor?? Seems like he’s projecting his homosexuality, and it doesn’t make his writing any better (or funny) when talking about a subject he doesn’t really understand, or tries to understand.

Writers should write what they’re passionate about. Things that move them. I’d at least respect the effort had he done that. If he were a true car person he’d understand what a manual transmission is all about. Seems to me he’s just an environmentalist
