A recent thread sparked a comment to the effect that the V6 manual could become a classic / collectible, which got me thinking. We all have wish lists, but I thought it would be kinda interesting to focus on ones we've owned and sold or been close to actually buying but for one reason or another passed on and later wished we hadn't. I tried to keep mine to five (wasn't easy), in no particular order: '98 993 Targa; '67 Mustang (289 manual); '73 2002 tii; '90 Miata; '08 R8 (V8 gated manual).

1991 Manual MR2 Turbo

BMW 320i manual with the m sport package. I think it was a 2015. Super simple and pleasant to drive. Returned the lease, but regretted not buying it.

Vauxhall VX220 Turbo, 2003

Also a Hethel built car
Every once a while I‘m thinking of selling my VX220 Turbo which is an Opel Speedster Turbo here in Germany.

But I own it now for over 18 years. It‘s a really rather special car and brought me to Lotus and lightweight cars.

I think from time to time of my Renault Megane III R.S. Cup, that car was also special, but it had to go for my BMW M2 (N55).

Cars I wish I had back:
- 1988 911 Turbo-look
- 1988 944 Turbo S (silver rose)
- 1992 911 C2

Cars I wish I would not have passed on:
- 1989 911 Speedster
- 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS (bought the 92’ 911 instead for $4k more)
- 1988.5 Lamborghini Countach (was $68k with only 6,000 miles on it)

A 1994 Porsche 993 RS. Yep. Bough from new for nothing, as everybody in Australia was broke. And sold it 3 years later. What a moron. Didn`t even need to sell it.

Wow re the Dino. Coincidentally, this afternoon I saw a 1988 red over white Countach, with wing, at my local Lotus dealer’s showroom (through the window). Guess it’s just a bit over 68k if you’re interested.

997.2 C4S white over all red interior manual. Strange spec but would have enjoyed and sold for a profit.

912 in burgundy in great semi-restored condition. a cool way to enjoy the authentic styling of vintage Porsche without the absurd price tag. These don’t lose value. Couldn’t justify another car at the time.

91 Supercharged NSX with ‘02 facelift conversion, higher miles for under $30k. This would have been both a driver and a profit. However wasn’t right for me at the time.

I should have kept my 2006 Maserati Gransport and 2016 981 Boxster Spyder. Miss them both but the masi more. Had it for 10 years and it was rock solid and the most sexy sound.

My list of blunders is long and distinguished. For example:

-- Passing on very low mileage 993 Turbo at about 25% of the current market price
-- Giving up a Land Rover Defender 90 Heritage Edition build slot

In 2005 I came close to buying a Porsche 964RS for £33K. It seemed a bit steep for a well used car which had seen quite a bit of track time and ended up buying a new Exige S2 instead. I thoroughly enjoyed the Exige, but the value of that 964RS now would be close to £300k
