Gates shifter conversion?

18 months in, I still love everyday I drive this car. The one thing I still feel a little “mid” is the visual design of the shifter. Feels like it lacking the special treatment the rest of the car got.

So, I was wondering…. What if I made conversion to a gated shifter? Cut out some steel plate and have a H shape, with the raw shit rod. Would t he at work? Has anyone tried it?
