Only four days before Hurricane Helene devastated Western North Carolina, we had a group of 15 cars, mostly Lotus (incl 4 Emiras), touring the Asheville area, taking in the British car show, enjoying some twisties and beautiful scenery. When I started seeing news reports of the devastation, it was hard to reconcile with the beautiful areas and great roads we'd enjoyed just a few days earlier.
Several of our group were from areas severely affected by Helene, including Asheville itself. Despite the great loss of life, nobody from our group was physically harmed, but sadly some rare cars were lost amongst the devastation.
Tourism is a major part of the local economy and I understand many areas are already welcoming tourists for the Fall foliage, but other areas will take years to rebuild. For this area to survive economically, they will need tourism, so hopefully this video will inspire some to enjoy the beautiful Western mountain area of our state in 2025.
