Loss of interior lights

Evening all

Not having much luck…..

Having created a post yesterday about the SRS fault, I now have 2 additional issues.

The first is that I’ve lost the interior lighting. This affects the main lights in the roof. They don’t activate on opening the door and can’t be switched on. I’ve also lost the green illumination that shows when set to auto. The the ambient lighting i.e. that in the footwell, doors handles, cup holder etc, still work.

I’ve also got a rain sensor fault being thrown when putting the stalk to auto for the wipers.

Anyone had either of these issues and can advise at all? The interior lights is a particularly odd one!

I’ve dropped the dealer an email but it’ll no doubt be a while before they can get it booked in and it’s a pain getting there

Hm.. electrical gremlins love these cars. Could be as simple as a blown fuse though. Have you checked them?

I did think this could be the case but I wasn’t sure which fuse it would be

Is there a diagram anywhere as I can’t find one online?

Someone on Facebook has suggested that maybe the wiring has come loose going into the unit and to pull it down and check, but I can see me ballsing that up and snapping the unit as I try and prise it off the headlining.

It would be fuse 82 if that's the issue. Could also be a loose ground somewhere.

This explains why the lights and rain sensor are causing an issue - they are on the same fuse!

That said, the rain sensor issue appear to have righted itself as it’s no longer throwing that error, but still no interior lights other than the ambient lighting (does anyone know is these are these on a different fuse?).

I’m guessing the ambient lighting is all linked to the area it’s on based on this eg the door handles would be 11 & 13, cup holders possibly 20 etc

Is there a particular trick to removing the fuse box cover? I've removed all 4 "screws" holding it in but cannot for the life of me get it out.

If I pull from the top I get caught on the underside of the glove box and I can't work out how to pull it from the bottom! Keen not to break anything by forcing it!

Can anyone advise please?!

Once you have the top moving can you work something down the sides that could hook it?

When you've solved this you can have a go at the emergency boot pull lever flap behind the LHS seat. I found that to be difficult to the point of, like you, you think you might break something.

With my Evora I had to pull the carpet back. There was some sort of adhesive used to hold the carpet to the plate too.

I'm in! Its a right bugger to get it out and I'm more than a little concerned about getting it back in

I've found the culprit...........

Blown fuse as per suggestions. Pulled out what I thought was fuse 82 and it wasn't blown and I thought "bugger", that's not it. Pulled out the ones either side and no issues there either. Then I realised they were all 5amp and fuse 82 was 7.5amp. Then it dawned on me that the above diagram is for the LHD car but mine is RHD! Went back across the other way and pulled what was actually fuse 82 and bingo!

No car part suppliers near me have stock of 7.5amp micro fuses, so have ordered online and will need to wait until that arrives to see if all is in order.

Got a funny feeling this may also be what is causing the SRS issue I originally posted about as someone else had this error thrown when they had an issue with fuse 82.

Well, you're likely not out of the woods yet.

Unless the fuse was defective (possible, but unlikely), something made it blow. In other words, something in the circuit consumed more current than expected, then the fuse blew to protect the car's wiring.

Yeah, but that feels like tomorrows problem

It’s a fair comment but I’m pleased to have “found” the issue. If it happens again, at least I’m one stop further ahead than I was an hour ago!

Turns out it's actually todays problem

Decided to take the 7.5amp out of the USB slot and pop that into slot 82 and it blew straight away.

Now the fun is trying to find out why.......I'm open to ideas!

Somehow one of the hot wires to one of those systems has shorted. Did you ever see water in the footwell? Any water leaks into the glovebox or area around it? Glovebox switch or light? Often a wire that's out of place near a moving assembly can wear through and ground against whatever was rubbing against it. The rain/sensor module, interior rear view mirror and overhead console are all up in the same area, but nothing in there moves. The vanity light in the sun visor? Electrical shorts can be a bear to track down. At least you know it has to be in the overhead console, vanity mirror visor, or glovebox area.

Another thought... do you have anything plugged into the USB port in the side of the rear view mirror housing?

Booked in for Friday with the guy who did the sound deadening.

Given 4 of the 6 potential locations of the issue stem from the headlining, he says it’s likely to be coming from there and if it is, it’ll be covered by his warranty.

I did however have 2 questions I was hoping someone could answer please:

- What is the glove box switch?!
- Does the rear view mirror use power for anything other than the auto dimming feature?

The glove box switch should be one of two things, the botton that opens the glovebox which opens electrically or the switch that disables the passenger side airbag (unfortunately, US models don't have that option). I'm guessing it actually refers to the opening button for the glove box.

I thought it could be referring to the opening button, but that still works which tells me it must be mechanical
