Emira on order
Lotus just unveiled the Emeya. The Eletre is on it's way to a road near you. The Evija is maybe going to actually be made in more than like 10 units.

Having seen a bunch of reviews of the Eletre, and seeing the teasers of the Emeya, it looks like Lotus has some very impressive design and tech in these new electric cars. The material design seems very advanced, with alcantara, carbon fiber, etc washing through the interiors. The center consoles of these cars seem to be running Unreal Engine for their graphics processing, bringing the display to an almost video game quality. The seats of the Emeya, which you can get a glimpse of from Lotus's teaser shots, look pretty incredible—something like the carbon buckets with the separate sculpted pieces of padding in a Koenigsegg.

As an Emira first edition deposit holder, it makes me wonder, will any of this make its way into later editions of the Emira?

Don't get me wrong, I love the Emira as it is. But some beautiful, perhaps more aggressive and modern seats would be a real nice to have, and a more advanced center screen would also be a cherry on top. Bits of carbon fiber on the exterior / interior would be nice, too.

Curious if anyone has insight on what's to come for the Emira?

I'm not sure anyone can answer this, but I would guess no.

There seems to be a pretty firm dividing line between what comes out of Hethel and what comes out of Wuhan. The electric stuff is almost a different company. It's a different design brief, a different customer, a different manufacture parts bin and process.

I'd be very surprised if we see more than minor updates for Emira. We might get a slight bump in power for a "final edition" V6 (would be hilarious to go from "first" to "final" in the same year but that feels possible) plus the I4 getting a power bump when the V6 goes away. I think we may eventually see some more exciting colors and a few extra interior trim options but for the most part, the Emira will be old news. The Type 135 will be Hethel's focus pretty soon, and Emira does not need much updating to keep those lines moving until regulations make them untenable to do so any longer.

I almost think Lotus is better served to crank out Emiras without much change, but then offer upgrades through the Lotus Advanced Performance department.

I think it's much as GetawayDriving says. There won't be a Series 2 Emira with a facelift and updated stuff, like there was with Evora, Exige and Elise. Emira is very much the bridge from old ICE Lotus to new EV Lotus. They will probably do some power upgrades for an S/GT version in another 1-2 years and some sort of V6 final edition. Some upcoming aftermarket upgrades from Lotus Advanced Performance have already been mentioned.

Type 134 - the smaller EV SUV like a baby Eletre - will be next to launch in 2024 then the Type 135 EV sports car after that. As that will be built at Hethel, it will bring the EV manufacturing approaches we're seeing for Eletre and Emeya into Hethel too. They have space on the site to build the extra production facilities for Type 135 and have applied for planning permission.

Although Eletre, Emeya and Type 134 will be built in Wuhan they have been designed and developed by the global Lotus organisation, for example Hethel on ride and handling, Warwick on design, Germany on technology.

I think Type 135 will be the first opportunity to see some of the great interior design features of Electra/Emeya in a sports car. Hethel will do the engineering work, but given it will be part of the new Lotus BEV family I'm confident they will want to have a reasonably consistent interior design language.

Personally, I think the Electra was a beautiful car.

oh wow you could tell me this is an AI’s interpretation of what an Emeya would look like in the 50s and I’d believe you. Typically cars of this era don’t look angry. This is wearing a similar expression to Emeya. Dual headlights. Similar grill shapes.

These coming in the future factory supplied upgrades have been mentioned for quite a while.

Does anyone know what they will actually be?

Probably not to the scale of a new cockpit or a new OS but I'm sure you'll see slight improvement. Current example is that the following features that was not on the FE V6 has been added to the i4 according to a post on the i4 section.

I'm also pretty sure that the rumored Chinese i4 with 400hp will eventually be available in the rest of the world. That's why I have already to my salesperson that I'll want an allocation on the last Emira build order in 2026.

found this interesting

has the i4 as the base edition in the UAE (where fuel price may be less of an issue)
Do wonder whether the "base" edition will ever exist (the inflated £60K car) or whether £80K will remain as the starting price with faster versions to follow
I suspect that when the mercedes tuners get hold of an i4, I may regret pulling out

Pulling out is a timing thing for sure.

Reviving this thread to talk about additional signs that the Emira S and R are coming. This contains a bit of trickery but here's what you can get the Lotus Vehicle Service Information site to show. Not sure if this is old news and what not, but thought I'd put it here for people to speculate over.

410 and 430hp 🤔

And both the Emira S and Emira R are 2GR-FE engines -- and not AMG M139 as many had thought.

That's the "trickery" on my part. You can choose any engine you want. However, "M" is not yet active on that website so I can't get the AMG engine to show up even though it's a valid code.

So does that mean it will or won't exist?

The "M" engine code must exist eventually... because there are no current engine codes for the I4 at all. Here are all the valid engine codes for the Emira that I've found:

A2ZR-FE s/c (182.7kW)
C2GR-FE s/c (320.2kW)
F2GR-FE s/c (296kW)
G2GR-FE s/c (313kW)
P2GR-FE s/c (306kW)
S2GR-FE s/c (257.5kW)
V2GR-FE s/c (298kW)

Edit: We know the engine description for "A" is wrong, because it is actually 2GR-FE s/c (298kW).

Am I insane for putting down a deposit for an Emira R which may/may not be developed and after going through 3-yrs of pain? Guessing it would be in limited numbers.

Some additional clues. Here are the engines that this Emira engine mount bolt part number LFAAM08035CA is compatible with:

2GR-FE 411HP - 3.5L V6 SC/IC 411HP <-- Emira S?
2GR-FE 400HP - 3.5L V6 SC/IC 400HP <-- Emira FE V6
JLH-4G20TDF-MP - VEP4 MP GEN2 400HP <-- Chinese I4
JLH-4G20TDF - VEP4 HP GEN2 360HP <-- ROW I4
JLH-4G20TDF-HP- VEP4 HP GEN2 416HP <-- Emira R?

Hey Nova! There is a post above from September 2023 referring to ADAS in the i4 but not in the V6. Anything you have seen that may indicate if these will be added to the v6?

AED 315,000 is £67,236 for the i4 base edition, which is not too bad (as an increase from £60,000 (12%) during the times the world has been going through). A lot of the press reports have been quoting First Edition prices while reporting them as Base Edition (actually not making the distinction)..

I would be surprised if they were not available in the V6 Base as an option. I think it was just a matter of timing. They locked the price and config of V6 thinking they were going to go to market with it ASAP. And then stuff happened. By the time they could add ADAS to the V6 cars, they didn't want to mess with it.
