I took my 75 year-old next-door neighbor and long-time family friend for a ride on Tuesday. I turned over the keys and let him drive too. He writes a poem every Friday that he shares with the cycling group he belongs to. I thought I would share his work! (Forgive the "twin-turbo" detail).

Colin Chapman was an interesting guy
Stick with me and I'll tell you why
He developed sports cars that were really great
He focused on simplicity and lightweight
His cars went by the name, Lotus
If you know race cars, it's a name you'll notice
Sharon Stone and James Bond both drove a Lotus Esprit
In "Basic Instinct" and "The Spy Who Loved Me"
Horsepower will make you go fast
But light weight will make driving a blast
Combine the two and you have a winner
It will turn your driving experience into a grinner
That brings me to the new Lotus Emira
In my opinion it's the car of the year'a
With a mid mounted twin turbo V-6, this little sweetheart
Is like driving a 400-horsepower go-kart
It just so happens my neighbor has one of these
And asked if I wanted to drive it... are you kidding meeeze !
Some days you feel like you must be living right
Because driving the Lotus was a real delight
I felt like I just pulled the winning lottery lever
And I'm sure I have the best neighbor ever.
Friday Rideandlunch is on
I may never be the same YeeeeHaaaass!!

You really made an impression on him! I hope someone let's me drive their hot new sportscar when I'm 75, sheesh...

In honor of your neighbor, here's a (much lower quality) haiku:

I see Emira,
And then I buy Emira,
Now life is complete.

He's a very kind, interesting old fellow. I was glad to share it with him. Plus, having know him for a very long time, if he had broken anything, he is the type of guy that would have fixed it without hesitation.

I won't let everyone drive it, but I'm not a guy that hides the car away in the garage either. When my kids learn to drive, I hope to share the car with them too. As long as I'm in the passenger seat.
