Interested to hear from anyone who had the new software update which was released yesterday. Good to know what issues you had and whether they have been fixed (plus any other comments)

I was booked to go in on Wednesday to get plugged in due to my engine management light being on constantly.
I ended up going in on Monday due to being in my car and the door not opening. Yes how bad was that the door lock wouldn’t work. 🤦🏼‍♂️
So after a couple of hours they managed to get the door open or they would have needed to wreck the door card to investigate as the fittings to get it off are on the ends. After having the car plugged in for fault finding I assume they did an update because after several attempts to switch the ignition on and off the door lock is working ok. They did say it could have been ice so used a silicon spray in the locking mechanism.

Mine was the first Emira (according to Lotus) to get the latest software this week, I believe it's got something to do with stop/auto hold perhaps?

Car currently back at Hethel for this and a number of other things, so I can report on the software once I have it back.

Possible thread overlap here (I posted in the cold start stalling thread) but mine has had the update as well.

Definitely noticed the hill start assist on the way home (or auto hold or whatever it’s called).

To be honest I’m not sure I like it. I’m not a fan of it on any of the cars I have.

Hopefully it can be turned off, or maybe I’ll just have to get used to it.

I’m sure you can turn it off - should be in the manual. Did you have non starting issues before or just cold start stalling? Good to hear what has been fixed / not

I‘ve had no other issues at all. The car would always start the second time.
No warning lights or anything else.

Re the auto hold, it would be nice if Lotus gave owners a summary of what has been done / changed each software update rather than having to wait to experience something on the drive home or look it up in the manual.

Hi Steve it’s worth sticking with the hill start assist. My previous car had it and I too didn’t like it but once I got used to it I found it helpful.

I’ll give it a fair go before I decide.
I’ve had it on several cars (including current ones) but I usually turn it off.

This is the first time I’ve had in on a manual car, though.
First impression is that it feels unnatural, and can’t be good for clutch wear.

The slightly irritating thing is that they do this in a software update and don’t bother to tell you what has changed.

That said, as long as I can turn it off if I decide I don’t want it I don’t mind.

Why would the clutch wear more? If you have to stop at a junction uphill your foot will be on the brake pedal and car in neutral. When you move off, select 1st gear and move foot from brake to throttle and the auto hold allows you to do this without physically having to put the parking brake on.

I get what you’re saying, but I wouldn’t put the parking brake on in that situation unless I’m half way up a cliff!

Anyway, I felt it working today not only when I was on a hill.
it seemed to come on even when moving off from level, so the clutch has to fight against it and then there’s a rather unnatural feel as it “let’s go” and you move off.

It just doesn’t feel right to me. Maybe I’ll get used it. Maybe not.

As I’ve said, not an issue if it can be turned off (although it would be very annoying if it has to be turned off every time the car is started).

I don’t think you can turn it completely off, just the option to keep it off when you switch engine off, but then you must Remember to manually press the p brake button esp if you’re on a slope! I find it very useful and auto hold releases immediately you move off in the car if it was on a slope and doesn’t fight against the clutch at all - totally seemless.

Ok. I’ll see what I find with it. After all, since the update I’ve only driven the car home from the dealer!

As I said, I never apply the park brake on a slope anyway and still manage to move off without rolling backwards. It’s not that hard.
I guess it could be handy on a really steep slope, but I’d prefer it not to come on unless in that situation.

Regardless, I think it would be helpful if Lotus sent an email or provided something that said

”Your car has just been updated with the latest software. Here’s what has been added / altered / rectified….”

How hard would that be? Instead we have to drive around and find this stuff out ourselves.

If it's engaging on a flat road, it likely needs adjustment. Shouldn't do that.

They should program the hill hold to only come on if the user presses the brake pedal hard beyond a point.

They just need to make it optional. Easy to turn off or easy to turn on.

It’s annoying when something I didn’t ask for that wasn’t there yesterday is there today. And I wasn’t even told about it.

There seems to be an arrogance with so many things these days that because someone arbitrarily decides something is an “improvement” it must be forced on everyone.
What happened to individual choice?

Obviously there are some people that like this feature. That’s fine.
Let them tick that box and have it on their car.

I had the software update on Wednesday with my first service and not had any issues since. The main issue I previously had was due to the update in October where it wouldn't always start. Fingers crossed this is resolved and no other gremlins will appear.

Thanks Sid - good to hear. Your situation sounds very much like mine so I’m hoping that this means the non starting issue is fixed

If that's just the auto hold after the update that doesn't sound right. The auto hold, as far as I'm aware, you can't turn off and should just engage for a couple of seconds and when the car senses movement, or the clutch is out a certain amount or something then it automatically disengages. What you're describing sounds like the automatically apply parking brake option has been turned on which IS a selectable option in the settings menu but different from the auto hold. The full parking brake option you have to use a lot more revs and it clunks a bit when it disengages, the hill hold should be seamless. After my car had an update the auto parking brake option turned itself on again and I had to go back and turn it off. This doesn't affect the automatic hill hold assist.

If it is just the hill hold assist that now functions the same as the parking brake then that's really not good!
