Can someone please share with me the origin of the word “quid” for a British pound? Here in the US a dollar is a “buck”. This comes from colonial times when people traded buckskins from deer for other goods. Quid?

Quite an interesting read. Not sure about blame- the- Americans but laughed at the pound of flesh reference. Squid as currency might explain the C note .
