Can someone please share with me the origin of the word “quid” for a British pound? Here in the US a dollar is a “buck”. This comes from colonial times when people traded buckskins from deer for other goods. Quid?

Quid? maybe they where trading squid, now renamed into a popular Korean game. 😂

Quite an interesting read. Not sure about blame- the- Americans but laughed at the pound of flesh reference. Squid as currency might explain the C note . ;)
I liked the Irish explanation.
The American dollar has its share of odd euphemisms

So, 2 out of 13 supporting my "squid" guess.
I feel like I have more success than the Shadow Grey !!!

I'd be inclined to believe the Latin or Gaelic origin stories... The squid thing feels like it is grasping a bit ... I don't think it has legs TBH...
