I am sure this has been asked and answered, but a search has yielded nothing. So, any insight would be appreciated.

In settings, there is an option for connection to a wireless network. When I try to activate it pops open a screen stating that it is searching for nearby wireless networks then reverts back to the screen where you choose to activate, and the selection is set back to deactivated. Could this feature be in future software updates, to maybe support OTA software updates on the vehicle? Or something my vehicle is missing because my Emira has five outstanding updates that need to be applied?

The wifi connection does nothing and we're not getting OTA updates as of today. You'll need to go to the dealer and some of these updates takes hours. Sucks cause it also means they cannot use their computer for something else. Not likely but it'll take yet another big update manually in order to enable OTA updates.

I was forewarned by the Lotus Tech, that did my first service, that some of the required updates he needs to apply were 3+hrs a piece. He also told me the way the Lotus update tool is designed it will not connect to their WiFi, so they have to use mobile hotspots to download - which is why some take forever. Just wondering if this was something that may be coming in the future.

The other thought I had was that the wireless feature was there for the wireless CarPlay or Android Auto features, but then why would the setting be exposed in the menu? So that is why I decided to ask the question.

I wondered the same. It seems to only be able to connect to WiFi when CarPlay isn't connected.

So you got it to connect? I haven't been able to even get that far..

Yes but no other options to update software or anything. Again keep your phone out of vehicle so it doesn't try to connect.
