that's probably the adapter Lotus used to attach the transmission to the engine... its not just the Emira, the earlier Lotuses were like this as well.
Annoying, but it's not broken, they all do it
when in Tour, cabin is pretty quiet and you can have a conversation.
Once the valves are open, the volume in the cabin definitely goes up and listening to the infortainment/ having a conversation will not be ideal
Whatever the underlying mechanical reason, it is definitely ECU related.
There was a group which purchased JUBU ECUs a while ago, and while that caused its own problems, one thing that stopped was stalling when cold.
It's probably related to some emissions tuning which aftermarket ECUs won't...
looks like its not just in the US - dealer here just told me he can only order i4's going forward.
Even the configurator only shows the i4 in the video splash screen....
Some people have had issues with cars not starting smoothly after not being driven for a while.

The latest Lotus software update fixed this for some people.
IIRC this is from the adaptor Lotus makes to mate the Aisin diesel transmission with the Toyota engine (which is ordinarily connected to an automatic gearbox).
They all make that sound to some degree apparently, it's a feature not a bug!
Last dealer visit / update was in Feb 2024...
I don't think it's software related at this point because it would have gone away for everyone once they got the relevant update. Someone on this forum mentioned that there was a recall on certain Toyota fuel pumps, maybe some of us have ones which...
didn't work for me, even after I unplugged the battery for a while. Still either starts rough or stalls the first time I start it.
What a strange issue to be facing...
it's started again for me, just as soon as I passed 2500kms...
but it's not occasional any more, it's after every cold start. At least in my case it's not software ( l had all the updates), it's not fuel (never changed). Faulty fuel pump not holding pressure perhaps?
oddly this issue has stopped occurring for me after the last software update after I took the car in for service... no change with the type of fuel I use.
I would definitely go for the PPF, as others have mentioned the paint isnt the best/thickest, also with PPF you end up having to wash the car much less.... some have blamed various electrical issues on water getting into the electronics...
It just happened to me today after I held start for 5s. It started smoothly the second time.
Maybe the 5s start button press doesn't always prime the fuel pump?
When I got my PPF the guys found several places where the paint was uneven (mostly on the inside of the hood creases, edge of rear spoiler etc). Honestly if not for them sending photos I might not have noticed.
They told me they found similar issues in 90% of the non-German exotics they worked...
Just had my first cold near-stall start as well. Ive been parking the same place every day, no rain, plugged in to ctek every day (so it's not the battery). Also my car should have the latest software since I collected it 2 weeks ago.
