Aftermarket wheels for the Emira

Darn, they look great. I had thought the sharp jagged design might not match the curves of the Emira, but I am happy to be wrong. How much lighter are they than OEM ?

They're typically made specifically for that vehicle. For instance, companies like BBS, OZ, Enkei, etc. make a lot of OEM wheels for different manufacturers like BMW, Subaru, Etc..

You'll sometimes see wheels swapped among the same make and model.. Like a Ferrari 360 Modena owner might swap on 360 Challenge Stradale wheels or a Subaru WRX owner might swap on STi wheels. That being said, its rare (and possibly frowned upon by enthusiasts) to see oem wheels from one manufacturer swapped to another vehicle of another manufacturer.

There are so many better options (lighter, stronger, more size and finish options) offered by the aftermarket. I always suggest checking the weight of those OEM wheels before considering buying them.. Some higher tier sports cars might have forged wheels from the factory that weigh 20lbs, while others may simply be fancy cast wheels that weigh 30-40lbs each and not as strong.
It's not always that frowned upon in terms of enthusiasts or community, it's frequently just a much cheaper route, since you would be buying a used set of wheels.

It's more common in similar markets though. JDM cars running other JDM wheels. Nissan Gt-R wheels for example. Mostly because the lug patterns tend to be the same. 5x114.3 (same as Emira)

Where-as Euro cars are all over the place. 5x100, 5x120, 5x108, 5x112. Which means it's much harder to swap outside the brand. (BMW wheels on a VW for instance)

But you do see things like VW running used Bentley wheels or older C4 Corvette Saw blades.

It really comes down to most factory wheels don't look all that great and when you add the complexity of wheel widths and offsets varying so much there are just limited combinations that work.

But Miata guys will run BMW E30 "bottle caps" and E30s run factory Miata "Daisy" wheels because they are both 4x100 lug patterns.

Great job on the design! Your wheels manage to look unique and at the same time like they were designed specifically for the Emira (as they were)!

Most aftermarket wheels look exactly like what they are- wheels designed to look cool but not to compliment the design of any specific car. Y’all did a fantastic job. These wheels look like they could have been part of an expensive factory option.

Is there any documented proof of the JWL testing for your wheels? I’m not saying Aerie hasn’t, but lots of foreign wheel manufacturers and private label companies don’t actually do any and just stamp this on anyways.

It’s a great looking wheel and the weight savings is good, I’m just looking for reassurances that the minimum load rating has actually been met.

From my understanding you have VIA certification, which gives you the ability to self test for JWL, but where is the actual documentation test results for the JWL? Maybe I don't understand the JWL self cert process. Apologies if I'm misunderstanding here.

However, we are unable to share internal development documents on public platforms.

There are lots of manufacturers and Brands. Advan, BBS, Konig, Volk/Rays, Motegi, Wedsports, Titan 7, so on and so forth.

All of those brands have a motorsport wheel of some kind or for Titan7 everything for the eye for motorsport. Many with forged options, all up to the task.
 
Our lightweight alloy forged wheels come with lifetime warranty, why not come with us .
 
Hi, just ask for some documents for the wheels via mail, still get no reply from you (Aerie)…
 
For those concerned, you can always check to see if a manufacturer or specific wheel also carries a VIA certification or TUV (for those in Europe that's the German cert).

Both VIA and TUV would mean that the wheel has been tested by a 3rd party. This obviously comes at an increased cost and will mean the manufacturer is likely more limited in the offerings as they will need testing on not just a generic 'type' of wheel, but across sizes and, at least for VIA also different tire sizes.

In the US SAE J2530 is the testing standard, but it is very similar to JWL
 
I am loving the different wheels. I am not in the market, but keep them coming.
