Alcantara Care and Protection

I know Alcantara can look grubby/shiny and worn fairly quickly compared to leather.

I've just bought a full Alcantara car (seats and steering wheel).

Any tips for care an keeping it nice?

Alcantara cleans up extremely well. As a detailer, I clean many cars with Alcantara surfaces. Sonax upholstery and Alcantara cleaner is my go-to product. Apply it to a soft leather brush and gently agitate. Then, wipe off with a damp microfiber towel. You may need to repeat it several times depending on how dirty it is. If it gets really dirty and matted it can be lightly sanded to restore the look by removing pilling and smoothing out the fibers. Don't be afraid as it is extremely durable and easily maintained. Below is a before and after picture of the typical neglected alcantara that I work on. As you can see, it cleans up very well.

Do you recommend any kind of 'protection' product for Alcantara? Or not required.

I don't use any protection. If you stay on top of it and do a quick light clean often, rather than let it get as bad as pictured above, it will always look and feel good. Feel free to reach out with any other detailing questions.
