CAR Mag Sports Car Test 2022- YouTube Video

I've been avoiding watching this all week and finally caved this morning because I need some new Emira footage in my life. You guys weren't kidding.. that was brutal. The Emira had the shortest segment and the reviewer himself said he liked it more than the other guys, then continued to tear it apart... mushy clutch and brake pedal, underwhelming engine, handing could be improved, too much body roll, seats weren't comfortable or snug enough, etc.. then it didn't even get mentioned at the final roundup.

Before this review, it actually seemed like CAR's Emira vs Caymans GTS vs Alpine A110 review was the most fair and the Emira was actually a close contender for first place.
😬

Interesting reviews.
Funny ,one of the best cars I've ever driven was a gen 1, 997 gt3, when you look at the spec 409bhp 400nm 1400kg 6 speed manual its looks familiar. When it came out it was second in ecoty that year. Some reviewers including Harry have said its like it should have come out years ago. But does that make it a bad car now?, how many people would buy a 997.1 gt3 now if they could afford 135k.
If the same reviewers were reviewing the 997 gt3 now they would still be waxing lyrical about it. So I guess it's subjective!

Two different cars with two very different reviews.. both Emira's. First review was a blue sport/cup 2, second was touring/goodyear set up.

Henry alluded to different feelings in his two different road trips as well. This time both sport/goodyear set up. The grey car and the yellow one.

Basically I cam to conclusion that they have not built these pre-prod's to the exact same specification. Why they didn't is debatable. I think it was to get feedback and do adjustments based on different specs or maybe they just don't have the manufacturing set up well enough to be consistent. I would like to think it's the former.

Autocar tested that same red Emira, and did say the exact same negatives that we did not see in other reviews. Maybe it was just that car, but certainly odd that Lotus would send that car out again for another review without addressing the issues? Either way they ripped apart the Emira. Not much praise this time around from CAR mag.

True, but if the Emira had the same power, weight, redline and handling feel on the limit then it may be recieved better?
Shame as it seems like it was so close! And that's still comparing it to a car from 2010....

That's another thing they mentioned... just how old the powertrain is. The reviewer basically laughed at the ancient 6 speed auto box.

These reviews certainly aren't making me excited for this car I've already been waiting 13 months for... and have another 7 to go (at least).

I really wish the Evora or Emira took to mods easier because right now a manual 718 Cayman 2.5T with a simple $1k APR tune sounds fun...

...and then imagine it with an upgraded turbo and stage 2+ tune. ~500hp at the wheels in a 3100lb car! Phew...

Isn't that what Emira i4 is for? and better looking.

Good car now but great car then?
Then price?
Great looking car and good performance - 2022.

If the Emira launched in 2010 - It would be car of the year and people wouldn't look at a GT3....ever.

As for price, I think it has been fairly priced and competitive. Bargain for the looks. Correct price for performance.

That's my point its a car from 2010 but it is still a great car?.

The 2GR is a great engine. It's low on torque and that supercharger isn't the best. It's reliable power, but not gonna throw you back into the seat. I'm seriously considering throwing my warranty right out the window for a built trans, upgraded supercharger, tune, and some KW V3s. Just gotta find a way or someone who can crack the ecu to tune for the mods. Figure ~$15k in mods on top of the ~$100k msrp and you'll have an Emira pushing 500HP that'll eat exotics twice it's price tag... and look better while doing it too!

But then again I don't really love the idea of buying a $100k exotic sportscar just to modify it, void the warranty, and kill resale value. If I wanted another tuner car, I should just buy a manual Supra or Z again. o_O

I can totally live with that! New old car and a good one!

I do my own thinking for myself, I don't delegate my thinking to anyone else.

Buying a car based upon someone else's opinion or review is mindless.

I have purchased a few cars that got horrible bad reviews and totally loved them.

For example, I own a Nissan crosscabriolet murano convertible.

The murano convertible got slammed with bad reviews, yet I love mine so much and love it every time I use it , and hope never to sell it. Rides like a rolls royce drophead, seats like cushy sofa chairs, buttery smooth ride and commanding high SUV seat height as a convertible.

It's the working man's RR Drophead coupe.

Interesting, every owner that I talk to that owns one, that I run into, which is rare since only about 3500 were sold in USA, feels the same as I do...... they would never sell theirs either, and they rave about how much they love theirs.

yet Every single reviewer ( especially Doug Demuro) slammed the car and only had the worst reviews of it.

its top of my list of my favorite cars I ever owned.

I’m sure the AMG i4 will be as easy to tune compared to 2.5T….

I’m really not sure who’s idea it was to put the lotus in the same line up at the other 4 cars 🤣 … a £70k lotus against that lot. Most stupid video I’ve watched in age. Total waste of time.

Other people gotta realize this too right? I mean, it's not even a fair competition. I can see the Emira vs the Cayman GTS, sure.. But not the GT4 and certainly not the GT4 RS. 🙄 There others are 2-4x the cost.

Either way these BS comparisons aren't helping the Emira or Lotus at all. Why do they keep giving out pre-prod cars to journalists? 😡
