Is this a known thing for the Emira to have water pour into the engine bay when getting washed? What is the workaround for this?

A bit yes. water will also pool on your trunk and spill onto your engine cover if you lift the boot too quickly. lift slowly and it should drip into the crevasse instead. only real workaround is to lay down a few towels I think. But also don't think it's a big deal if you get some water in there. I don't use any towels.

I've been mulling this over. I'm thinking of 3D printing a cover that I can slide onto the gap whist I wash the car.

I haven't got around to printing anything yet. However, I purchased myself a foam noodle. I cut a channel down the length, the width of the thickness of the Amira's rear glass. I push this on every time I jet wash the car and it does the trick very well.
