• The September 2024 Lotus Emira Photo of the Month contest is underway! Please take a moment to check out thread here: 🏆 September 2024 - Emira of the Month starts now! (You can dismiss this message by clicking the X in the top right hand corner of this notice.)

Cars you've sold or passed on and wished you hadn't?

I have read that the Evora S was/is a true high mark for handling. Very nice ones can still be had for $45-55k, which I think is a bargain if they live up to the hype.

How does the Emira compare to the Evora S 2+2?
When I drove the Emira V6, it had so many qualities of the Evora, but just more refined, but not in a bad way…in a good way. However, I have the I4 ordered so I can’t really compare the Emira AMG to the Evora S quite yet.

Honestly the only car I had to sell and still wish I hadn't was my 2002 S2000.

I enjoyed the ~2 years with my 2011 Evora S but it was just ok. Happy to have owned it/experienced it but wasn't a forever car for me.

I still have my Exige S and 997.2 C2S so I really don't have a lot of complaints there and they still tick my "forever" bucket.

The car that got away, was back in 2008 I passed on buying a restomod Datsun with a small block/fresh paint/no rust. It was in the lower $30k which was still a lot at the time but man I bet that car would fetch some money today.

At this pace, I may never get another car again lol

Great thread…single biggest car regret would be my 89’ 25th Anniversary Countach. It was flawless. Bought it with 600 miles on it, sold it with 3700 miles. Always was an experience taking it out for a drive. Sitting on the door sill while meticulously letting out the clutch in order to back up enabling you to see was all part of the experience. It’s the quirks that we bitch about but also the things we remember with a smile when we reflect. With that said, my Lotus Evora S 2+2 was my favorite drivers car of any car I have owned…hands down. Beating out all the German and Italian cars I was blessed to have owned. The Lotus reminds me of the connectivity of a shifter kart. Will be keeping the Emira for a very long time.
I saw this auction today and thought of your story.

If I had space in my garage, I would have kept all the Lotus cars I've had the pleasure of driving 😊

Fun reading through all the comments, and some of you had amazing past cars!

I have good memories with nearly all of my cars - it was more about the people and places I knew at that time in my life vs the car itself though. Maybe for that reason, I don't feel any pang of regret on the cars I've sold over the years. The time had come to move on, and whatever I moved into was the right thing to do at that moment.

Maybe that's just pragmatic, or maybe the Emira is the best car I've owned, so it's hard to have any regrets when I feel like each car sale has led me to this!

Cars I wish I had back:
- 1988 911 Turbo-look
- 1988 944 Turbo S (silver rose)
- 1992 911 C2

Cars I wish I would not have passed on:
- 1989 911 Speedster
- 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS (bought the 92’ 911 instead for $4k more)
- 1988.5 Lamborghini Countach (was $68k with only 6,000 miles on it)
This is the Lambo I mentioned in my earlier reply to your post. Went out and took these pics for you yesterday, thought you might enjoy. It’s an ‘87 (not ‘88 as mentioned). One owner, 6k miles.

Absolutely stunning. Great year (I graduated HS). You know the design is near flawless when 37-yrs later the car is still an absolute show stopper. Thanks for the pics!

What an absolutely ridiculous looking car. It is quintessential Lambo. 👏

Was it a really long time ago or an amazing deal? I feel like these cars are around and the price varies greatly based on condition. And yes, cool car.
About 10 years ago on an 02 and I knew the owner. Was driven well but always taken care of. I could have gotten it for less than $20k.

I really want the following older cars: E39 M5 or E46 M3, MR2 Turbo, 1st gen NSX.
Lol. My list is the same + yellow fd rx7

But I don’t want the mr2 or NSX anymore since I think the emira vastly outshines them both. The mr2 is a headache and NSXs are just overpriced now. I have an s2000 that I think is better in ways and worse in others.

Still want a vintage 60s Porsche, BMW or Mercedes at some point purely for vibes.

I regret not getting a modern Mercedes gull wing when they were $125k but I was never really in the market for one.

Incomparable Icon. You’re most welcome, truly my pleasure.

BMW 1m. Had it for two years, loved it but then traded in against an m4 which was nothing like as good

991.1 GTS. Sold it to make room for the Emira 🤣
What a ride...that was 4 years and 3 cars ago.
