Check Engine Light after a few laps on Track

Hi folks,

I recently took my I4 Emira to track days twice. Both times, the check engine light was on after a few flying laps (3-4 flying laps the first times and 2 flying laps this second time).

For the first time, I went to the service center, and they read the error messages and concluded nothing in particular was wrong (the engineer did mention something about turbo temperature but I could be hearing it wrong). For the second time, they read the error messages but they are not sure about what the issues are (this time something related to exhaust control is one of the messages).

It is a bit strange to them that both times the issue occured during track use, and not in any other conditions. They said they will send all the error codes back ot U.K. for their analysis and will get back to me.

Have you guys encountered similar issues related to track use, and do we know if there is a fix?

I’ve had 2 days of track use since getting the car on March 4, 2024…No issues.

I doubt there are going to be many, if any I4 owners on here that have tracked their cars yet. I’m hoping to track my I4 Emira soon (Lotus Nyo also).

Did you carry on with the check engine light? Did it affect the car’s performance? Did the error clear itself? Of course it’s quite concerning to have such warnings and would be concerning on the track.

Sorry I can’t be if any help, but do please share whatever information comes back from Lotus.

You have the codes? One guess would be calibration of the exhaust flap. If it doesn’t open as expected it’ll throw a code after some time. Had this early on mine and a simple calibration did the job. It’s a V6 tho.

The initial feedback from the UK team seems to be that the exhaust flap needs to be calibrated. Hopefully this fixes the issues as well as in your situation!

No obvious reduction in power but I really didn't want to continue driving with the check engine light on.

Yes of course, it’s not worth the risk. Strange that the exhaust valve fault would appear on track. Maybe due to the additional heat when the car is working hard, possibly resulting in sensor or hardware problems appearing that wouldn’t show up with moderate usage.

What track was it? I’m hoping to get my Emira to Zhejiang Circuit soon.
