Coating on Alcantara Steering Wheel?

I have an alcantara steering wheel and every time I drive I get some type of reaction/irritation on my hands. My Emira was purchased new. I am wondering if Lotus ships the cars with a protective coating on the alcantara that maybe the dealer is to remove during PDI. I am getting ready to order a new leather wheel from GRP, but figured I'd ask the forum first if anyone has run into this before. And if so, how'd you fix it.
