I thought I would start my Emira Journal with my first in-person encounter with my Vivid Red FE2.0 as it sits at Lotus Charlotte awaiting final CARB approval. My wife and I made the trek down from Raleigh on a sunny Saturday to finally see our car in the flesh. It was also our first time meeting our Sales Manager, Daniel, in person after 2.5 years. The car is, of course, stunning in every way. Sitting outside a dealership full of Lamborghini Huracans and Aventadors, it totally fit right in. We remarked at how it seemed much smaller than the Lambos, but had such a striking presence. Seeing a bunch of skittles colored Emiras in a row amplifies this and they seemed to be getting tons of attention.

I am, of course, biased, but the Vivid Red absolutely rocks. With the black pack, black wheels and yellow calipers it is very striking. The red/black contrast just works so well on this car. While the intense, non-metallic red may not draw out every nuance of the car's lines as much as someof the other colors, it has a liquid quality to it that flows along the curves. There's no doubting this is a "baby Ferrari" spec and I'm sure it will get mistaken by many who aren't familiar with the Lotus. But I've always thought red just looks awesome on sports cars. I also went with the black leather interior, which seems to be a very rare spec, as there were no other cars on the lot with this interior. To me, black leather also is just a timeless combination in a sports car. Also, since I plan to keep this car until forever, I wanted something that would hold up well for the long haul without requiring constant care. Lastly, I'm very happy with the no privacy glass choice, as it maximizes visibility of the engine, which is such a cool aspect of the car. I also agree with others that the sidelight integrates better without the privacy glass.

Lastly, I have to comment on the dealership itself. Lotus (aka Lamborghini) Charlotte - and Daniel specifically - has been a joy to work with. We all know the Emira puchasing process has been a roller coaster ride and information has been hard to come by. Daniel has been great throughout and was very transparent and positive, under what has been even more challenging conditions for the dealers, who are taking the brunt from customers. I'm very happy I chose to work with them.

That's it for the first post. Next one will be on pickup day, which Daniel has confirmed will be sometime between Feb 12 and Mar 13!

Wow, thanks for sharing - it looks wonderful! Funnily enough, from what I remember the Emira shares almost the same dimensions as a Huracan, but looks a bit smaller due to the design curves and tightly pinched and sculpted waistline.

It must be super frustrating seeking your car "stuck" at a dealership when all you want to do is grab the keys and drive it. I bet you had a sleepless night afterwards!

Well done on your new car and it looks stunning. If there had been a vivid red Emira available when I was ready to buy I would have probably bought it.
You are going to get loads of people staring at it wherever you go. 😁👍🏻

Well yesterday, March 7, "SOON" finally arrived for me! With the CARB hurdle finally cleared it was time to pick up my Emira and bring it home! My wife and I took the train down from Raleigh to Charlotte the night before. We hadn't ridden the NC trains before and thought it would be fun and make it easier to be at the dealer in the morning. We arrived at Lotus Charlotte at 10:30 am and, upon walking into the showroom, we were met with a spectacle of very vivid red!
IMG_5687.webp

Lotus Charlotte had it all cleaned up (after sitting on their lot for a while) and we took some time to admire and inspect the Emira from every angle. We then got down to business and were done in no time. I really can't say enough good things about Daniel and the Charlotte team. They have been great through the entire crazy process and this last step was no different - simple, friendly, no nonsense and transparent. We signed the paperwork, Daniel drove it out of the showroom, went over the various instructions and details and got us on our way.

The 2.5 hour drive back to Raleigh was amazing. I couldn't believe I was finally behind the wheel! Within minutes we had a thumbs up from a souped-up Mazda RX-7 and the reactions continued from there. Cars speeding up and slowing down trying to get a look, cameras pointed out passenger windows, people smiling and waving. Don't get me wrong - it was a bit nerve-wracking at first - especially since I haven't driven a manual transmission in a while. But once on the highway it was smooth sailing. The ride is actually quite nice (Tour chassis), but SO connected and SO planted. It tracks like a missile down the road, but responds instantly to the slightest input, without feeling darty or unsettled. I don't know how else to describe it other than it feels like your hands are gripping the steering rack and directly moving the wheels exactly where you want them. Those that have driven a Lotus before know this, but for me it was a revelation.

We got home and our neighbors were immediately outside and going crazy. They've known this car was coming for a while and were there to celebrate with us. He raced Porsches in his younger years and was absolutely loving the Emira. Now in it's "forever home" our Emira is ready for the many, many miles of smiles to come. I can't wait to meet up with other owners in the Raleigh area who are soon getting their cars!

Congrats! Now you are officially allowed to update your "Emira Status" !

Within minutes we had a thumbs up from a souped-up Mazda RX-7

White with dark blue Advan wheels? I have a buddy in NC with a modded RX7 and also on the list for an Emira!

So within hours of getting our Emira home, my wife and I have our first story. If this is any indication of Lotus ownership, this is going to be a fun ride.

We realized we had hardly eaten anything all day and decided to take the Emira on it's first outing. We went to a nearby Capital Grille and pulled up. The valets insisted that I park it right in front myself (maybe they can't drive stickshift). So we went inside and the host asked us if we were celebrating anything. My wife and I looked at each other and we both joked "we're celebrating a new car". :) Now you must understand - it is SO not like us to be talking about something as frivolous as a car this way and we both laughed as we said it. Well the hosts immediately went over to the window and were gawking at the Emira. They then took us to our table, which had been sprinkled with confetti and had a "Congratulations" card and two glasses of complementary champagne. Our server congratulated us as my wife and I exchanged looks of dismay. The dinner ended with a special dessert with "congratulations" stenciled in powdered chocolate. The whole thing was truly bonkers, but so fun and everyone seemed to be having a good time giving us this experience. (It was also, frankly, a smart business move for the restaurant as, with minimal effort, they turned a simple dinner into a complete event and absolutely gained two new customers.)

This story may sound sort of pretentious and you might think "what the hell did you expect pulling up in a blazing red Emira?" Well, it still totally threw us for a loop and gave us a glimpse into a new world of driving enjoyment, meeting new people and sharing new experiences. I consider myself truly priviledged to be in a position to own an Emira and look forward to more new experiences and sharing this very special car with a lot of people in the coming years.

No, this one was pretty much fuly blacked out and had a wing on the back. He came up from behind, slowed down to check it out and then went past with his arm out the window with a "thumbs up".

Love the Vivid Red! I had a red Elise and it really pops. I think I see my car in the background!

Daniel has been awesome throughout the entire process. Even having a dealer 30-min away I chose Charlotte (which is 4-hrs away) for my purchase simply because of just how responsive and professional Daniel was to me when asking about placing an order. There is a lot of posts about negative dealership experiences on here, so nice to see people celebrate the good ones.

Side note the capital grill is fantastic. I don’t think much of it but I have to say I pretty much have a perfect meal every time I go.

Whats an awesome experience that you'll both not soon forget!

The Capital Grill around here does that as well - all the exotics and Bentleys gets parked out front. Congratulations and I am living precariously through your experience. Post more of these "reactions" when you get them. They sustain me.

I have not been keeping up with my journal, so I thought I would resume with a road trip I'm in the midst of - driving from NC to NH. I have been traveling a bit and now in NH for the summer. The Emira has been at our place in Raleigh and I have been having withdrawal symptoms, so it was time to fetch it and bring it north to enjoy the twisties of New England. I had debated shipping it, but hell, this car is for driving, so that seemed like a missed opportunity for some quality time behind the wheel. I'm attending a trade conference in NJ Mon/Tue, so it conveniently worked out to split the trip up.

I used Google Maps to calculate a route without using highways so I could enjoy less traffic, hassle and road rash. It took me on some very nice, very lightly traveled primary and secondary roads through North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland, including US 15, US 360, US 522 and US 301. The Emira performed flawlessly the entire day, becoming more and more connected and familiar to me. I was almost entirely on my own on empty roads, tooling through the countryside and eating up the curves. Things got a little busy going through the Annapolis area and across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, but then opened up again. The last stretch was on a fairly uncrowded NJ Turnpike and then out to the Jersey shore.

Is it now safely and conspicuously valet parked in front of the hotel and attracting the typical attention. Wednesday the trip continues up to NH and I'll add another post after I complete the drive.

I completed the second part of my journey yesterday, driving from Asbury Park, NJ up to Southern NH. I took the Garden State Parkway up to I-287 across the Tappan Zee Bridge and up the Taconic State Parkway, which had very light traffic (on upper stretches I was totally alone). I then took Route 9 across Southern VT and then Route 101 on into NH. The drive was amazing - perfect roads for the Emira. The weather was great, but I did get caught in a heavy thunderstorm in Bennington VT and decided that was a good time to break for lunch.

Once again, the Emira performed flawlessly. I find it excellent for long drives, as it really balances comfort with engagement. I wasn't bored for one minute. Every turn and lane change was a joy and even on straight roads the feedback coming through the car was amazing. I have Touring suspension and it soaked up any road surfaces. It was really pouring down rain for a bit, but that too was no issue, other than some minor fogging up of the rear window. I arrived completely refreshed and could have turned around and done the drive again.

Now it's time to explore the back roads, mountains and coastlines of New England. Damn this car is amazing. I have never experienced anything quite like it.

Taconic Parkway is truly and epic drive, did it way too many years ago in a 78 Esprit S2.

Yes, it really is a nice stretch of road. The last time I did it was in 1985 in a 1980 Triumph TR7!
