Emira Issues - from final production cars

@Shahaf2911 thanks for letting me know! I'm in the US for a few more days and can't get the car to my dealer but will report back end of April.

So good news … car all fixed under warranty.

A/C fault was a broken pin in the connector - some monkey at the factory must have bent and broken the pin.

Coolant leak - now this is potentially more serious issue for everyone on here … my coolant radiators were damaged. Now either these were stones in which case this is a major design fault issue or were again damaged during build at factory.

Fast wash wipe - still no fix for this although was told as long as you dont put it in auto / intermittent you can put it straight into fast mode and should work.
On the fast wiper point - I was told the same thing (don’t use auto just go straight to speed one and then two) but it doesn’t work. On my drive home from pick up in torrential showers there was no way to get the wipers into high speed and I never went anywhere near Auto. See wiper thread.

I know there is a separate thread but wanted to answer here to keep the context.

It definitely works but is really easy to mess up as there is no way to move the lever to fast or fastest without at least for a millisecond closing the switch contact of auto. Only way is starting the car in fast wiper position.

My opinion is that the following procedure is the best workaround:

1) first make sure the interval dial on the wiper lever is on the highest interval setting and never ever touch that setting again as it will trigger the bug

2) start car with wiper speed on highest

3) put it back into interval (not completely off as this will again trigger the bug!) and hope whatever auto speed comes out of it is matching the amount of rain

What that does:

I have managed to get the full range of wiper speeds on the interval setting this way. Means the auto mode goes up to the highest setting itself and lowers down as well.

But if you ever touch the interval speed dial or move the wipers to the off position it will immediately trigger the bug and you're back to slow wipers.

Oh I also had my significant other do a short recording on the last rainy trip to Hamburg to document that it's possible.

I can't prove that the lever is on the auto position but if compared to the wiper position in the other video I posted before, it becomes clear.

What can be seen here is the wiper speed on highest while being in auto mode:

So my car is back, the problem was fixed, if I understood correctly (there is a small language barrier haha) the problem was a software issue and they did an update, they also did another update for the Bluetooth that was available, my family reported that everything works accordingly now. I thought maybe the car model was only for UK owners but I guess not, it’s really nice and I didn’t know it’s actually a key holder.

Has anyone else who has owned their car for a few months noticed issues with the leather? I’ve done about 1200 miles, car isn’t used daily.

It’s clear the tan leather is taking onboard some colour from my jeans. None of which are brand new (quite the opposite in fact!).

Of more concern is the piping is showing signs of wear already.

Curious if this is happening to others with leather seating?

What kind of leather care are you using? The leather looks like it's very dry.

None. Maybe I should be but it seems excessive to think the leather would need treatment so soon, when it it used sparingly. I’d expect this and any other trim to have been tested using automated systems (like they do with beds) to ensure appropriate longevity.

I would expect periodic maintenance of the leather but not every 3-4 months. I’ve not had to do that with other leather seats in the past, albeit not with Nappa Leather.

I’d be interested to know if it’s anyone else or if it’s just my car, like many of my issues appear to be!

That leather piping wear does not look normal unless you are wearing very abrasive clothing. I would get the dealer to check it out.

Unfortunately that’s looks like it’s going to be a wear issue because it’s slightly raised. Wearing jeans especially if they have raised studs on the pocket edges will increase the risk of scrapping them. I learned this that hard way one time on pristine white leather seats. I’ve got tan leather in mine and so far it’s ok but I can see it slightly wearing/darkening on the edge.

@NeilS Sad to hear your experience is spoiled by the AC issue. But it's getting interesting now. Mine was working for several months and over 3500km. Out of a sudden it stopped.

@digilotus I don't think its a gas leak. My dealer was able to bring it back to life with an error code reset after connecting their laptop. The ECU reported the AC as blocked by the onboard systems.

Unfortunately it only worked for a few hours and is back to not working again. Dealer visit coming soon when picking up the Evora...
Thought I should post an update. Lotus have no interest in sorting out or even acknowledging the problems. Over 20 times my wife has tried to contact them which is really poor considering she collected it from the factory. However, she contacted Rybrook Solihull/Blythe Valley and they agreed to have a look within a couple of days. Meanwhile we realised the DAB radio wasn't working either. 😐 Anyway Rybrook found the gas was low in the a/c but it still didn't work after topping up and then they identified a corroded relay which needed cleaning and now it works for the first time. DAB is a known problem apparently and there's no fix yet for that or the wipers. 😠 I've tried all the work arounds for the wipers but they just revert to slow making it tricky to drive in some conditions. I can see this becoming a major recall issue in the future. Such a shame on what is otherwise a brilliant daily.

With regards to the wipers. Latest update from the dealer is that they are waiting for new wiper motors to come in and yes there are delays. The software needs to be done together with the new motor apparently.

I wonder how much has to be dismantled to get the motor out. 😟

Well, I open the front bonnet yesterday and had to reach over (because I’m short) was concerned about scratching the panels. Things are never the same when all the panels and parts are dismantled.
