100% I want an NA engine (yes I know its Supercharged) to rev out as much as possible. That's where the magic happens and the feel good factor hits you smack in the face. Nobody should be short shifting this car! That's what the i4 and slush box is for 😉
I'm a little concerned too after going through all the reviews in regards to the engine being just Ok or pretty good. Most of the Evora Gt reviews put the engine as more of a highlight than not being a top feature of the car. The Evora Gt engine seems to have a lot of character and compared well to the Cayman Gt4 and GTS in terms of sound and power delivery. I'm curious if its just more sound insulation, tuning or what that seems to have muted the v6 engine experience a little. Hopefully a 3rd cat delete will wake it up properly!

It feels like they have probably remapped it to offer a more GT experience. Less high end power at lower revs and more torque lower down amd I'm the mid range.
Again all about making it easier to drive for the masses. Only surmising tho

Of all the cars I've driven (on road), never once have I redlined the engine and I don't drive like a grandpa. I really don't care about +/- 200rpm. Will make no practical difference on road.

If the lower 200 rpm compared to an Evora GT allowed Lotus to just squeeze within emissions and sound regulations of today then that's OK with me!
I had to read that over again to make sure I wasn't seeing things.... I hope you were exaggerating to make a point, otherwise you might be the only person on this forum to have never redlined an engine? Mine see redline literally everyday.

I can tell you it is absolutely important and a key piece of the driving experience to a car like the Emira.

If hitting the redline is so much fun you’ll get it 200rpm earlier on the Emira vs an Evora. 😆

On the road I drive in a way not to hit redline. On a track I try to minimise hitting the redline as that wastes time and can affect lap times.

In my little under-powered sports cars of the past, I loved to hit redline mostly because of the sound, and you weren't going all that fast. Once I got muscle cars though, going to redline was a different thing because you were going so fast in 2nd gear on, that I was watching traffic and looking to see if the law was around anywhere. Not the wisest way to drive a high performance car, but at the time and age I was at it felt good. That was back when everyone wasn't carrying cameras around in their pocket, much less a video camera. Nowadays things are quite different. I just assume that if I'm in a car that's getting attention, somebody is going to be recording a video of me if I'm doing anything out-of-the-ordinary. At least in the city. Out on country or mountain roads, it's different, but wisdom is the better part of safety, so even then I'm much more reasonable now than I was when I was younger.

Over time I found that I hit redline less and less, and began to shift on the basis of sound rather than even looking at the tach. Whenever I happened to do a quick look at the tach as I shifted, it seemed that I was usually shifting at around 4,500 rpm. That allowed for a reasonable amount of shifting, while not looking or sounding like I was racing on the street, or traveling at those kinds of speeds. When driving in the twisties, more often than not I was shifting at around 3,500 rpm with the occasional burst up to 4,500 when there was road space to do that.

This is all on the street mind you. On the track it's all-out fun, but those days are gone and I won't be taking my Emira to the track, ever. 400 hp is a lot of power on tight, twisting roads. You'll never fully use that much power there, but you WILL use every bit of the ability of the chassis, steering and handling, and that's where the Emira should really show it's stuff.

It's a special car... not for everyone, but for those who understand what it is and what it can do, you'll probably be like Harry... laughing and enjoying every minute.

Redline in 2nd will take you just over 60mph, in 3rd it's about 100mph.

in most driving situations shifting around 2000rpm is most fuel efficient - is this true of this engine too? In town there's no reason to shift any higher if that's the case. The redline / near redline is only for those moments on the open road.

Exactly, so more power would just mean you could only legally use 1st and 2nd and then have to short-shift into 5th or 6th, because continuing to redline it in 3rd and beyond will likely get you arrested.

Probably, if you're looking to conserve fuel. This is why an auto trans is always trying to get you into the highest gear as quickly as possible, to keep the rpm down. There's a place for redline though, when you need to pass slower traffic like a big rig climbing through passes and hills.
