the ariel atom must have had some serious ugly and bad points if the emira lacks luggage, well...try an atom...where an ATOM is about all that will fit...

And at least £40k - this is an expensive toy

realistically that 40k becomes 60.... before you know where u r..... but it will also get u inti serious trouble, before u know where u r.. haha

The press often say the s is the sweet spot of the 911 range but I found it a bit dull for my taste 😬

It reads as an “on paper” review, rather than based on first-hand experience of the Emira.

That’s a very fair comparison, only thing is that it is a on paper interpretation comparison, not an actual review piece from real world experience. At least they were being fair. I4 AMG DCT will be the next big media embargo I suspect…..

I find these third hand reviews pointless. Cars aren't bought on data but emotions and the Porsche isn't an emotional car.

Unless it’s their RS or limited editions. Also, their pricing strategy of endless options list puts me off……

They favor the Cayman on two points: daily driveability and skidpad/lateral Gs (which they default to the Cayman only because no official skidpad numbers have been released for the Emira).

This is where things are also a little bit more difficult to compare, as the 718 Cayman S has a known skidpad rating of 1.02 G of lateral force before it starts to break traction. No official stats have been publicly released by Lotus yet. Still, if we take the Top Gear test drive of the validation prototype, which is basically at 9.9/10 production car spec, Ollie Marriage mentions that the car feels as nimble as the just discontinued Exige.


Considering that the Exige Sport 390 could, with good tires, pull 1.1 G on the skidpad, it would not be surprising if the Emira pulls 1.02 or better. Since we don’t have an actual number yet, this one goes to the Cayman S (until actual numbers emerge).


As it stands, the score is Emira two, Cayman S one.

Overall it's actually a very fair comparison and doesn't come off too biased, considering it's from a Porsche site.

The scores from the sections above come to a tie, yet we can’t help but feel that the Porsche is the more mature drive. Both cars are ridiculously good corner-munching machines, but while the Emira is always set to attack the next corner, the Cayman S has the option to become a comfortable city runabout, and for that reason, we give it the win.

Bear in mind though, that while the Cayman is still number 1, the Emira is a very, very close second. Some drivers prefer the always-on, always-ready style of the Lotus, while others enjoy the adaptability of the Porsche. You really can’t go wrong with either one of them, depending on what you personally enjoy to drive.
 
It is trying to be reasonably objective. But I think their conclusions on driving dynamics and daily usability aren't yet substantiated, given they're trying to compare the Emira i4 to the Cayman S but they're reading across from other people's V6 driving reviews. Part of it appears to be influenced by the Cayman having adaptive suspension, which they're inferring means the Lotus is less flexible and hence worse. An interesting read.

I for one appreciate a decent passive setup! Less complicated and lighter just two easy advantage to name. I have always opted for passive setup in my cars.
We had a Merc with adaptive airmatic - comfort was too soft and sport was too firm - never had a happy medium as it was a heavy car, so stayed in normal for most of the time and put up with the ride. Not to mention the never ending suspension faults of the air shocks!!
Whereas a decent passive setup with relatively low weight, like Tour, would be less hassle. Lower the weight is key I think.
