Hey everyone,

I just finished the break-in period and switched the drive mode to ‘Track’ with ESC turned off.

One thing I noticed is that the ESC seems to turn itself back on automatically whenever I push the rear end a bit aggressively through corners.

Is this normal, or am I the only one experiencing this issue?

In track mode you still have some safety net when pushing hard.

In track mode you additionally have to switch off ESC completely by pressing „ESC off“ on the screen, there is a little button for this.

Thank you for your kind reply.

I made sure to fully turn off the ESC by holding the button for 2 seconds.

However, it still seems to reactivate when I push the car aggressively.

Ok, interesting!

Do you have an i4 or V6 engine?

I‘ll attend a drift training with my V6 next saturday, that’s why I hope esc will be turned off and stays off. :)

Do you have the ESC off indicator on your dash ? I do when I turn mine off, which I do every so often (almost always in sport mode), and there is no intervention by the stability control by any means haha, so if that’s not the case it’s either you haven’t turned it off or there is an issue.
Mine is a V6 Manual btw.

I drive a manual V6 as well.

I’ve watched Chris Harris and Sam Reynolds drifting with the Emira.

Yeah, the display shows the ESC off indicator every time I turn it off.

But the ESC turns back on when I try doing a doughnut or something a bit wild.

It came from the factory with the suspension set to ‘Touring’. First edition.

I sure hope that’s not the case but it does sound like you’ll have to see the dealer :(

Thanks.

My local dealer and technician informed me that this issue has been reported to the UK headquarters.

There has also been another report of the same problem here in South Korea, so it seems it’s not just my car.

Could it be some sort of local South Korean regulatory requirement ?

Just a short feedback.

I tried the button and it's a little different to the above shown.

When I am in track mode there are two signs in the driver's display, one is the yellow above "ESC off" and "ESC track" in brackets.

If I switch ESC off then this second sign "ESC track" disappears and only the yellow above remains.

But I would recommend to leave ESC always on at public roads, it's not always apparent but ESC is working quite a lot in the background and you don't even always notice this as it is a real subtle way how it works. Ask me how I know... :sneaky:

Here’s an update on the ESC issue.

An engineer at the official Lotus Korea service center told me that it might be related to the emergency brake support system. This system was developed and installed by Lotus Korea to comply with South Korean traffic regulations, which mandate that all cars must have AEBS starting from 2021. He speculated that this system might be causing the ESC to automatically reactivate during certain emergency situations.

Lotus Korea has sent this information to Lotus headquarters, but there’s no official response yet.
