Feels slower than 400bhp

I found the drag race

Was pretty extreme. Looks like a combo of the i4 and DCT that beats the v6 manual. In the second pull from “start” both cars are fairly equal. After the first gear change the i4 is gone. I suspect a short shifter and very good driver could close the gap a bit. I know in stock form the v6 manual throws are long- you will lose lots of RPMs during the shift- which won’t keep you in peak power like the DCT. Short shifter actually makes a big difference in shift speed.

V6 auto vs i4 DCT while still not a perfect match would also be interesting to see.

Those Shifters in Lotus are meant for old men to shift..LOL....
Years ago with Evora I tried a few quick shifts and the travel it took was not worth
the missing gears and destroying a gear box ...
Having the I4 I do miss shifting but clutch was just to heavy for my blown knees..
Does not feel like a sports car I4..But hopefully next month after 1000 miles it
will sound more sports car in sports or track mode..

I was moaning a bit during my I4 break in as tour-mode is tuned very conservatively. Track mode however, totally different animal. Much greater throttle sensitivity and the boost hits hard higher up than I expected. You will certainly notice the weight distribution when you hit boost as the front feels light. Piggy back tune is all I'll need.....very happy!

Car & Driver posted a 3.4 to 60mph in a US car (very impressive). US cars may produce the typical M139 HP as in the CLA45s 416-423HP even though Lotus advertises 400HP.

I also have a Porsche 718S, which I now find boring to drive Vs the Emira (but it's also never broken in 7 years unlike the Emira).

When I get back in it after having driven the Emira a lot, it feels fast in comparison. It's only 350bhp Vs the 400bhp Emira, but without a doubt pulls harder when you put your foot down.

Does anyone else think the Emira doesn't feel as fast as you would expect from 400bhp and not much weight?

I had a 718S, first stock, then tuned. It’s 100% the torque curve. The Emira is gutless down low compared to the 718S. The turbo shove of the Porsche is apparent as low as 2,000 or so RPM, while the Emira needs to get above 4,000 RPM or so before it starts moving. I had my Emira stock for around 5 months, and since have been running the JUBU 440 kit/ECU plus a high flow filter and third cat delete for the past 6-7 months. The JUBU 440 provides around +65 lb-ft of torque down low, which significantly changes the driving experience from 2K to 4K RPM. Plus, there is more power up top.

So glad I waited for the Turbo SE, even if the price is a bit ridiculous. At 3.6s to 60, the 400bhp Turbo is a legitimately quick car, no caveats.

I drove an V6 and i4 back-to-back when doing my test drive. In the i4 doing some "spirited-driving" the auto kept the revs in the power band for the turbo - 4.5-7K - most of the time. If you are still running in and keeping below 4K then hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised when you can have it rev more.

My Evora GT feels quicker then my Emira, but both feel slow compared to my C8 at 2.9 0 to 60
If you are looking for a track car I think a DCT is the way to go, but if you are looking for a back roads car that is engaging I really like a manual gear box for that.

Any issues with the JUBU 440? Last I heard there was still some issues for the US market and it didn’t sound like it was ready for prime time

Agree. I don’t think there is a replacement for manual as far as driver engagement goes. I was just going to post how much I like the manual with short shifter. I’m plenty happy.

Conversely it’s good to know that the i4 is a more traditionally fast car for those that want that.

Me too, once it’s genuinely plug and play with no issues.

It is not plug-and-play; I understand each one must still be tuned remotely. I was one of the first to get one in the US, and I've had several tuning sessions with JUBU since taking delivery of the ECU last August. My ECU is about 85%-90% of the way to being a "polished product," IMO.

With the JUBU 440 does it pull as hard as your previous 718S?

I’d say stock 718S vs JUBU 440 Emira would feel pretty close, with an edge going to the JUBU 440 Emira on the top end. My tuned 718S had such a large wallop of torque down low that didn’t die off until higher RPMs so it felt like it had more of a shove versus JUBU 440 Emira.

Looking at Car and Driver test figures:

Stock Boxster 718S manual:

Quarter mile: 12.5 seconds at 115 MPH

Stock Lotus Emira:

Quarter mile: 12.7 seconds at 111 MPH

Is it reasonable to assume that an increase of 40 peak HP as well as around 50-65 ft/lbs of torque across a wide range of the powerband would result in an increase of 4 MPH in trap speed? I think so.

And I know the standard Lotus forum disclaimer - no one buys a Lotus to drag race. 🤣

Thanks for the update. Can you share what remaining issues you are facing?

When I ordered the JUBU 440 kit, there were two options - 6,800 RPM limit or 7,200 RPM limit. I specified the 7,200 RPM limit but going beyond 7,000 RPM is still not possible.

Once in a while, the revs will drop too low when coming to a stop in touring mode with the clutch engaged and the car will stall. This issue was more prominent in the beginning - constant stalling on every drive - but now the issue is happening far less.

There is a timing issue between 6,000 RPM and 7,000 RPM - the engine cuts power. I’m waiting for a resolution from JUBU on this. In the interim, I’ve been adding Boostane (octane booster) when I fill up the gas tank which helps/basically resolves the issue. Still, I am on 91 Octane here in California and specified 91 Octane for the initial tune when ordering the JUBU kit so I did not expect this issue.

No Lotus is a drag racer but I4 would be better suited for it...Nothing I would want to race with.
And most drag strips it is not about racing each other but more on time racing...
.Not my cup of tea back in my day
