I picked up my magma beauty two days ago (write-up coming soon).

But a quick question: below about 2000rpm the engine makes an odd gravelly noise — a cross between loud white noise and like there are loose nuts and bolts rattling in the gearbox. Above 2000rpm the supercharger kicks in and everything is smooth and buttery.

I have a vague recollection of reading this before. A quirk of the Lotus tuned manual gearbox? I’ve never heard anything quite like it…

Given the way the engine revs in neutral, the car could very well have a light single mass flywheel.

My GT has one, it chatters a lot. I learned to live with it... will see how my Emira sounds once it's back from PPF installation.

Hi @Johnson , I suspect it’s the typical manual transmission grumble at low rpm up to about 2000rpm.

Is it in all gears?

I collected mine around 6 weeks ago here in Auckland. Mine exhibited the same noise under load under 2000rpm. My car has done 1400km's now and the noise has diminished quite a lot. Read on here others stating it seems to go away over time. Pretty sure it is gearbox related.

It's most likely the gearbox, which will probably settle with use, although the supercharger can sound a bit grumbly too on some cars.

If the Gearbox needs to "Wear-In", how easy is it to change the Gear Oil to remove all the "Wear-In" particles that you probably don't want in there for the long run......

Is the Gear Box easy access, simple Drain and Refill?
