I have been told by dealer that the 5+ second delay before the handbrake releases on hills is the same for all manual cars . you either slip the clutch or try to best guess when it releases and then pull away is this the case with other vehicles anyone know of a fix?had this issue from new 2 years now

This is not true. The handbrake releases from hill-hold assist as soon as the car starts to move forward.

Who is the dealer that told you this?

Lotus Ashford Kent .it’s been back many times

Yeah definitely not right on my car as on steep hill ,press brake and release ( hill hold on correctly) press clutch and engage first gear press throttle and release clutch and brake holds for about 5 seconds while slipping clutch before it releases

I’ve had my car at the dealership twice to fix this problem with no luck yet. The hill assist will not release when I try to go forward. It will only release the brakes after the 2-3 second delay. I’m also up to date on all of the software updates. I wish the hill assist can just be disconnected honestly.

I am sure I am way behind on software updates and right now my car is just fine so I kinda don’t want any updates! If it ain’t broke….

Sounds more like you have Hill Start Hinderance...

As others have mentioned there was a software fix for this problem - might be worth doing but if it has been back many times to the dealer surely they have done this.
