Loss of interior lights

Not having much luck…..

Having created a post yesterday about the SRS fault, I now have 2 additional issues.

The first is that I’ve lost the interior lighting. This affects the main lights in the roof. They don’t activate on opening the door and can’t be switched on. I’ve also lost the green illumination that shows when set to auto. The the ambient lighting i.e. that in the footwell, doors handles, cup holder etc, still work.

I’ve also got a rain sensor fault being thrown when putting the stalk to auto for the wipers.

Anyone had either of these issues and can advise at all? The interior lights is a particularly odd one!

I’ve dropped the dealer an email but it’ll no doubt be a while before they can get it booked in and it’s a pain getting there

Booked in for Friday with the guy who did the sound deadening.

Given 4 of the 6 potential locations of the issue stem from the headlining, he says it’s likely to be coming from there and if it is, it’ll be covered by his warranty.

I did however have 2 questions I was hoping someone could answer please:

- What is the glove box switch?!
- Does the rear view mirror use power for anything other than the auto dimming feature?

The glove box switch would be the one that turns the light on and off when you open and close the glove box. The rear view mirror also has the HomeLink switches in it.

Sounds like it might have been something the sound deadening guy did.

I thought it could be referring to the opening button, but that still works which tells me it must be mechanical

Do you have the passenger airbag dissabling switch inside your glovebox, and could the fuse be for that?

The glove box switch would be the one that turns the light on and off when you open and close the glove box. The rear view mirror also has the HomeLink switches in it.

I had thought about the Homelink possibility, but since Gooner is in the UK, I don't think it's offered there but, I may be wrong.

The rear view mirror has usb slot most use for dashcams, so there's power needed there. I imagine the rain sensor is powered there too.

Homelink is available in the UK, I found out at the weekend, that my car has it installed(only took me 3 months to work it out) Now just have to work out what to use it for

Possibly the wiring to a sun visor vanity light, mangled by a sun visor bolt.

I do. Guess the “glove box switch” could be referring to that as well as the auto light switch when opening.

The USB is on a different fuse I believe. I think it’s the one next to the one in question. I took the 7.5amp out of that slot and tried it in slot 82 which is when I found out there was an issue as it blew straight away!

I happen to also own a car in Europe (Portugal) which happens to also have the rear view mirror with the Homelink system, but was disappointed to find out that the US Homelink (and garage door systems in general) radio frequency is not compatible with the systems there.

Homelink works perfectly with my garage door. If you set it up you might need help from someone to press the button on the garage unit & then quickly press the Homelink button in the car to link it.

Just to update, the issue has been found and fixed.

The issue was the wire going into the sun-visor vanity mirror. This is where the installer suspected the issue would be and he was right! It’s very tight in there and whilst it was fine when I left having had the work done, the wires must have been pinched when the visor was moved at some point.

One bit of advise for everyone, the Emira uses micro 2 fuses not standard micro. Maybe I’m the only mug that didn’t know this and I only found this out having ordered micros and having had them delivered yesterday . Micro 2s are not readily available and usually have a 1/2 day wait (in the UK at least). As it was, the installer needed to go to Halfords and buy 2 mixed packs to get the 2 7.5s, which was a very expensive was of getting the fuses needed!

I’ve now ordered a selection of them to sit in the garage at home so I have spares if needed (because Lotus don’t give you any, unlike some manufacturers).
