Real World Boot and Storage Test including Golf Clubs

I play and for years with the Boxsters (986, 981, 718) they always end up in the passenger seat so this will be an upgrade (y)

That bag leans more towards a Staff bag, a standard carry or smaller cart bag should fit fine.
I have a 981 Spyder. My bag fits fine in the back and my power trolley fits in the front. Was hoping my company powercaddy might fit behind passenger seat if pulled forward.

what about the zimmer, where you going to stick that!

I'd love to know what % of Emira buyers play golf :p Forget that, supercar buyers in general, how many actually play golf

More of a rock climber and mtber myself, i'll get the climbing bag in, but the bike, no chance
I wonder if any of the current rear cycle racks would fit a Lotus Emira.

Rear glass + Komodo, no scratch, no modifications to car needed, tiny footprint.

Nice bit of kit that.
I think for that money though, I will just buy another car for bike duties 😅

I will probably just use a Thule on another car for UK bike duties, but for overseas events will throw up a Google doc to swap either Emira or wife’s 718 for my daughter’s A1 for the week. Daughter looking forward to either. Or knowing her, both.

A Seasucker cycle rack should fit - one fits on my Evora.
What about for a mountain bike? Would you still trust it? I have a hidden hitch on my ND2 which works great, but the Emira sits even lower.

I'm considering the 3-bike Sea Sucker Bomber mount on the windscreen and the single rear tire mount on the back window. I don't think I'd trust the Talon with a 35# bike.

I'm a climber too :) and I'm considering buying an Emira, so would really love to hear your experiences as an owner, about fitting climbing ropes, gear, shoes, helmets, snacks etc into the car..

thanks!

It'all fit in no problem. Put your shoes in the boot and they'll be nice and toasty when you arrive at the crag, added bonus for sure! Unless you're a trad guy climbing off width and have cams the size of watermelons, then I'd go for an SUV 😄

This pre-warming of your gear is a great point... nobody likes cold nuts banging against their legs.

Haha sounds great! thats a great silver lining to the warm boot situation :)

Is there a silver lining to what I’ve seen in videos about rain pooling on top of the boot panel & flooding into the boot space when you open the lid? Or is that an old issue that has been fuxed?

It's just an engineering choice (for venting the engine bay) that you have to live with... if you remember to be careful / gradual when opening the hatch, and only initially lift it a few inches and give the water a few seconds to drain in a controlled manner, it's no big deal 🤷‍♂️

Ahhh i see! So there is a way to drain the water away if you are careful and allow it time to flow down some proper channels before raising to the top?

That’s good to know! Thank you

Just wanted to say thanks again for your helpful reply.

I test drove the Emira at the weekend with a bunch of climbing stuff in the back and & loved it. (Post drive it even fitted 2 carry on cases behind the seats!)

Put my order in and should hopefully have a car in July!

Would be good to organise a climbing meet with you two at some point🧗🏼

Had trouble fitting my clubs in the boot/trunk of the Emira. I could get my old Ogio carry bag in with everything, but not the driver (so it went behind the seats) and the head of one of the other fairway woods sat high up, making the trunk lid harder to close.

I shopped around, comparing different bags and looking for the smallest ones height-wise, and lightest ones, to reduce bulk and hopefully create more room for the woods and driver.

Success: I purchased a Taylormade Flextech Carry/Stand bag today and due to its size/shape, ALL my clubs (including the driver) fit and left plenty of room to close the trunk lid (see photos). As the OP did, I had to remove the woods from the bag, but at least everything went into the trunk, with lots of room for shoes, a hat, and a golf umbrella as well. The Taylormade bag weighs 3 lbs and is somewhat higher (36.25") than the other two bags I was interested in, but its shape left plenty of room to stuff the heads of each wood, next to it.

I also looked at the 3 lb Callaway Hyperlite Zero Stand bag, thinking it might work best due to its low height (35") but because the upper bag shape included a large handle, it was actually worse and didn't leave as much room to stuff in the woods next to it.

The 3rd bag I considered, was the Ping Prior Generation Hoofer Craz-E-Lite; also 3 lbs but 36" in height. I never tried it, since I"d already bought my Taylormade bag at a different golf shop.

So for those of you looking for solutions for your carry bag (and not wanting an ultra small "Sunday bag" that fits less clubs), make sure to choose a bag shape that leaves room near the top of the bag, so you can place the heads of your woods in that space.
