Has anyone done anything else to the red starter button protector?

I was wanting to change the colour of mine as I hate the red - it doesn’t go with anything.

Maybe yellow, match the stitching / callipers? Or maybe black?

Can it be done? I’ve heard about dying plastic another colour but was wary about trying.

Could it be wrapped?

Have anyone done anything to theirs?
Please share if you have….

Vinyl wrap would likely be the easiest way.

Is it easily detachable? Anyone game to try removing it without breaking it?

I don’t think it will be a good idea, the button is pretty close to where you’d rest your hand while changing gears, it’s just my speculation but imo it’s there to prevent miss clicking it while driving rather than a gimmick.

Lotus yellow might actually be really interesting I agree! (will also match my calipers) or even body colored.

From looking at the handbook, I think you’re supposed to push down the gear gater to remove it from the surround. Then pull up the surround to up clip the two tone plastic from the middle. Then the button is meant to be accessible… at least that’s what I think.

But don’t want to break anything.

Yeah, I was thinking more so your could spray it outside the car, not to leave leave it removed (for the reason you state). I guess removing the whole console panel as @Jimblob describes (and masking everything up) is probably the way forward in that regard.

Careful. The service manual is misleading on this (as it is with quite a few things)

That link doesn’t work for me… what does it say?

Dear Aftermarket (CC: Lotus Advanced Performance),

With great interest we wish to purchase:
  1. Parts to achieve a fully exposed shift linkage like the kits available for Eliges
  2. A yellow, brushed aluminum or carbon fiber start switch guard that also holds its elevated position or slowly soft-closes
  3. Darkened brushed aluminum cup holder surround
  4. Some other cup holder solution since the actual cupholders are pretty useless. Maybe something that sits on the shelf behind.
Regards,

Most of us I think

Carbon Fiber start switch guard (with slow close) sounds awesome.
Add lightness.

I hate the switch guard and will be looking to either remove it or make the guard black.

For the button itself you could probably get a printer label (or printable vinyl) and print out an overlay sticker and create whatever you want. Can even laminate it so it doesnt wear from use. Just make the diameter perfect so it covers it correctly. Should also be removeable and not damage the OEM finish underneath.

Has anyone tried wrapping something as fiddly as the switch cover?

If you don't want to remove the cover, its probably easier to mask and plasti-dip it whatever color you want. Not sure if its possible to wrap something that tiny without going insane.
