Quick ? about the tail gait. Seems that iif closed halfway, it would not open with the remote or dashboard button. Will have to then put pressure to closed all the way and then will open. Looking to see if any alternative since when connecting the trickle charger like to leave some gap for the cable.

Use a screwdriver to close the latch so the car thinks it is closed, then gently lower the tail lid onto it. There should be enough room for cables to run into the trunk.

There is enough space at the side towards the top of the hatch to feed the power cable out without trapping the cable.

The tailgate on the Emira are a pain in the butt with their poor locking mechanism. Mine has been pretty good but now looks a tiny bit lower on the left which unless using more effort than I should have to looks locked.
The problem with it not being locked properly is after getting in the car, set belt on and realising the yellow or red indicator is showing it’s a pain to go close it again.
Also why do you have yellow and red indicators, it’s like Lotus knew it was never going to be reliable and gave it various levels of cra*p closing.
