Tariffs on Emira in US?

He has a large team around him to help him make these decisions. Our government is one of the largest employers in the world. The new goal is to eliminate our debt and reduce our taxes by increasing tariffs. More of a tax on consumption than an inefficient IRS system. They have been very transparent about this. If you go straight to the source of his cabinet members, they will tell you exactly the plan. Either way, we definitely have to reduce our debt and balance our budget. There were two very insightful interviews recently on the All-In Podcast with Scott Bessent (Treasury Secretary) and Howard Lutnick (Commerce Secretary) that you can watch on YouTube. They are great resources for information.
Howard Lutnick is disconnected from reality. So his mother can live comfortably without social security. Of course she can. Da. Most peeps can’t. And you believe he surrounds himself with competent people, wow. He surrounds himself with enablers.

If this tariff remains, will it just apply to new cars? What about used cars?

My problem with this extra 30k is that it’s not going to lotus or the car, it’s paying for billionaires taxes. If the car worth that much I’ll pay it.
If I did not get my car before Tariff I would not have purchased..I had to pay 25 K taxes for pulling money out of 401. to purchase
and so tariff would have stopped me for sure..

I can't see Lotus being able to afford to cover this 25%. It will surely be past on to the customer.
The Emira is a cool car, but there comes a point when it just becomes too expensive. I hope this doesn't push it over the edge and kill sales in the US.
Exceptionally bad news if you've ordered one and it's not yet arrived in the country. How many will be cancelling their order if the price just went up $30K?
I fall into this category. I placed my order in December, with a projected delivery in summer, and this whole tariff thing has been on my mind for the last 2 months, hence the reason I started this thread. So far, I have not heard anything from my dealership, but I have been soul searching about what I will do if it does get passed on.

The Emira is the first car in a really long time that I have been truly excited for. Honestly, there is really nothing else that I crave right now. If the Emira was originally priced at $135k, would I have even ordered it? Not sure. But a 911T currently starts at $140k, and would probably end up around $155-$160k with options - if you can even get an allocation. And I really don't desire a 911 nearly as much as the Lotus, and Porsche will be subject to a tariff as well, pushing it near $200k!

That said, if I don't back out, I will do all I can to negotiate the tariff out of the deal. I really want the car in my custom configuration, but I also plan to keep my eye on dealership inventory, cars.com, and BaT for the next few months

Ultimately, tariffs are going to suck the life out of the hobby for car enthusiasts that desire something other than a Corvette or a Mustang.

Rumor is Lotus UK has cancelled all USA orders that are not yet built until tariffs are figured out, if they do resume -- prices will indeed be 25% more.

You'll get information through dealer network soon.

Just heard from Lotus of Houston. They have notified me based on what they know today a 25% tariff should be expected. Plan on call with them tomorrow to discuss. This is a moving target obviously for dealers & potential clients.

F***! F***! F***!

I was afraid of this.

Someone just posted their dealer email about it on Reddit…

Affects all vehicle imports, so spare parts etc. Looks like no one is immune to the price hike.

I'm seeing similar posted on other forums and FB.
Looks like Lotus just pulled out of the US.

If you're an existing owner, spare parts and specialised maintenance may become quite difficult in the future.

It’s an import tax so won’t apply to used cars. Unless they are imported.

Sorry didn’t ask the question very well! Are second hand cars imported into the USA also subject to this tariff? Sounds like they are.

What I don’t understand is why he’s done it on parts too. If you want a manufacturer to set up a factory in the US (which is part of his motivation?) they are going to want to import to that factory certain parts of the car like, say, the engine from their one worldwide engine plant. In fact, do all current US car factories source 100% of their components in the US?

Has this guy got a fetish for high inflation? Or hasn’t he got the mental capacity to understand consequences?

Possibly you are trying to read to much into the reasons and economics behind these decisions. There is the chance he is doing it simply to gain votes, it's a good populist headline; "Bring Jobs Back To America".
