I don't think this is an issue, but once I drive the car for more than 15 minutes my temperature (I believe the oil temp on the dashboard) shows 200F constantly.. It doesn't go lower or higher than that, just pegged there..

Anything to worry about? When should I start to worry if at all?

Thanks

Not an issue at all. Very normal and shows a good working cooling system. Mine might move around between 196 and 200 with no AC on, but if I'm running AC it settles into a very consistent temp even when driving hard.

Yep.. I am never NOT in Sport mode after I start the car.. I feel like touring is so quiet and tame!

Same here. Used touring for the first time the other day in very cold and wet conditions on the way to the dealer to switch to all season tires. Right back to sport now.

Personally, I think this is a software bug or sensor issue. It is not statistically possible for it NEVER to hit 201 degrees. In the summer, mine was usually pegged at 200 but even if the system went into overdrive, it would at least crest over once in a while. I also don't think it is an issue, just glad they all work the same.

what they said, and it's engine coolant temp, not oil.

I live in FL so the summer was super hot... Still not over 200.

Interestingly, mine is set to Celcius, being UK/Euro, but it's reading varies quite a bit, usually around 83c-85c, but occasionally it'll peak at as much as 90c. (200F is 93C)

Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to when it fluctuates, but it's been this way since the day I collected from Hethel (6600 miles in now)

I too would be very suspicious of a gauge (or system) that never shifted by at least a few degrees.
With an old school analogue (needle) guage, it may not be so easy to read a degree or two variation, but being a digital numeric readout does highlight the tiniest fluctuation, so would expect to see a couple of degrees drift.

Funny as I was thinking the same thing. I'm still in the break-in period so easy driving in tour mode but it's always 200F. Today was sub 50F outside and it dropped down to 197 for a couple secs but then right back to 200. I realize it's normal but I would have thought it would have a lower engine coolant temp.

My 2001 BMW runs at about 226F. Manufacturers raised coolant temps over the years because it lowers emissions. But yeah, keeps the engine toasty. For several older BMWs you can buy aftermarket thermostats that open sooner, running the car cooler, which is easier on hardware (hoses, radiators, etc) and I believe can help peak power a bit. I wanna say that some tuners offer this for the 2GR but I know nothing about the details yet.

Nobody:
Lotus Engineers: return temp < 200 ? temp : 200;
Matt on the smoking tire podcast said Porsche basically does this now because so many people were concerned about their temps getting high.

Basically a fake temp gauge and if something is actually wrong/too hot, it will throw an error. Otherwise it just sits at a fake constant low temp

Makes sense. When people don't know what normal looks like, don't give them an excuse to bug you about something.

I remember in the past I had 2 models of the same car. One was 2010 and the temp gauge would move up and down. The 2011 model, the temp gauge would not move at all. I always thought that was strange.
