The 13 Emira Colors

Thanks everyone for such a great supportive forum!
I have learnt so much over the past few months so I wanted to finally give back a little.

I know everyone is really keen to know what 13 colors will be available after the First Edition! I know I was.

Well it looks like they included them within the public configurator setting files. It literally took 2 minutes to find in a web browser for those that are tech literate.

Here goes:

First Edition - 6 colors:
Color NamePaint Type
Seneca BlueMetallic
Magma RedMetallic
Shadow GreyMetallic
Nimbus GreyMetallic
Dark VerdentMetallic
Hethel YellowSolid

Interestingly the additional colors are marked as V6 FE colors, but that can't be as we would have been told that they are available by now.

Base Edition additional 7 colors:
Color NamePaint Type
Meridian BlueMetallicNew color?
Atlantis BluePearlescentExisting Lotus color
atlantis-blue.pngatlantis-blue-emira.png
Basically the blue version of Dark Verdent
Cosmos BlackMetallicShould be a nice deep black with silver speckle?
Osmium SilverMetallicThis could be a silvery aqua blue!
osmium-metal.png
Real Osmium Metal
Vivid RedSolidBright red seen at Hethel?
vivid-red.png
Zinc GreySolidThe gray Emiras recently seen at Hethel? Probably like nardo gray or a little bit like crayon? I call it undercoat gray. :ROFLMAO:
nardo-grey.png
Aspen WhitePearlescentExisting Lotus color

Also for the interior, looking at the settings file it seems that there will be a black leather with yellow stripe and black leather with red stripe option. I think you can see the yellow stripe on black leather on a head rest in the configurator videos if you look very closely. 😀

I bet this puts a rabbit in the hat for some of us! However the FE colors are really beautiful so you can't go wrong.

Happy Emira driving!

Sorry if I missed something or am late to the party, but last I heard from my dealer we were supposed to be getting the new base/FE 2.0 colors in March 2023 (obviously didnt happen). So, the official reveal got pushed to September 2023?

You should always add +2 yrs to whatever Lotus estimates.

March 2023 was pushed from around the original estimate I heard of early 2022, so I guess I only added a single year instead of 2 years. My bad, that one is on me I suppose lol

The post you’ve quoted is from April 2022 and referred to September 2022 :(

Every time I ask Lotus for an update on when the Base Edition info will be published it slips further into the future. The most recent I heard was Q3 2023, based on Q1 2024 first UK Base deliveries. But I take it all with a high level of skepticism until they actually publish it. I doubt they’ll publish info on new colours until sometime in H2.

I don't think Lotus themselves knows when, but I'm starting to wonder if Lotus even needs a base model. Since they're issuing an FE version 2 production run, it seems they can't make enough cars to meet the orders for FE's, and this is just the manual V6. It looks like they could make FE bundles with the V6 and i4 for years and still not be able to make enough. Just add the other 7 colors, steering wheel stripe options, include ADAS and they could make FE's for years. The only thing that would slow that down would be price increases, which is when a base model under $100k would start to make sense, but by then the Type 135 will be out.

What a time to be involved in sports cars.

Base versions of v6 and i4 won't have the built in profit potential of the FE. So why not sell at the high end predominantly? Customized BE are less in Lotus interest. In whose favor is 600 more higher cost NA cars, especially for 2021 depositors lured by launch pricing promises. The $12,000 Emira top-end bump will send a chill down the line. Notice how many vacated slots are being offered elsewhere.

Also interesting is line 58 in the json file (https://configurator.lotuscars.com/configuration/emira-logic.json) which has GB prices at 71.955. Surely this doesn mean the base v6 will be £72K + options + on road costs? This míght make the 2 litre around 67k - a long way from the 60k initially claimed.

The £60k originally quoted was for the base i4. Unfortunately a lot has happened in the world since then, including a nasty inflation that's driving up the costs of everything everywhere. When Gordon Murray was talking to Harry Metcalf about the T.33, he mentioned that materials, supplies and the like have increased 40% in the last 2 years. If Lotus only increases the base models by 10 or 11%, that means they're eating margin to some degree compared to what they had originally forecast 2+ years ago. That sucks for the customer, but that's what inflation does. They can offset that with volume somewhat, but that depends on them being able to produce volume. Ramping that up has no doubt been much slower than they expected, but they seem to be making at least some progress in that area, based on reports from people picking their cars up from Hethel.

£71,995 will be the V6 Base Edition after the price rise. And yes, the i4 Base Edition will be up at £66-67k too.

Hopefully with materials and logistics costs stabilising and build effort per car improving they will be able to hold these prices through into 2024, but it's entirely possible there could be another price increase in the next 12-18 months.

Some of us could be priced right out of the market.

Not exactly 1:1, but the Ford Lightning Pro (MY22) started @ $41k and MY23 is now over $61k. They've had 4 increases in less than a year. I realize the material costs for EV are different but still is alignment with the Gordon Murray comment about material increases of 40%

This says configulator will be updated in weeks with 7 additional colours for FE 2.0 for US market.

Some other information are include (ex. 600 more Emiras will be sold in US, total 1500.)

I certainly hope so.
After my Switzerland trip in the summer I may consider selling mine.
Will be on about 5k miles then, the current prices are concerning despite new V6s costing 86k on the road.

Love the car,but I can see a big tumble in prices with more and more being released now...

I am not sure I agree. At the end of the future values is all personal speculation anyway. I think those that wanted the car have already ordered the car, hence not so much demand for the extras and speculators that have been trying to milk the early sales period. Reality is that if you look at the prices of exiges and evoras I think they have held up very well, and now with inflation kicking in there has already been one price rise, with more likely to come for the Emira. In recent years I have bought a lot of second hand cars over new due to the depreciation effects, but I am actually not at all concerned about likely depreciation on my Emira. I wouldn't be at all surprised if my 82k OTR car for receipt later this month or early next will still be worth 70ish in 3 years and with c15k on the clock...when I suspect the new equivalent will be costing closer to 95k OTR at that time (assuming only 3% pa price rises as it is already 87k+ from June'23)

Good logic,I hope you are right

One can hope. My biggest concerns with the Emira, from day 1, was depreciation due to production volume (and messaging!), not market/macro economic forces. The problem with Lotus marketing of saying they'll "build as many cars as they can" is that they remove the perception of exclusivity, which is important in this market segment. What they should have done instead is estimated their manufacturing capacity and said the car is "limited to 5k cars produced globally" and "only 1,500 copies per year are going to the US." Or whatever the target numbers are. The language matters.

This is a well documented problem with McLaren and their cars lost major value as a result, early on. They had limited production capacity, but they didn't advertise it as limited. Once they started "limiting" the production numbers, things changed. There's a lot of psychology to market demand, which is why economics has evolved from classic economic theory to behavioral economics.

My biggest concern from day 1 was being able to get one. I had missed the allocation at Park Place Lotus by one number. They were allocated 45 cars, and I was deposit number 46. Once I got a call from my dealer telling me they had had a few cancellations, and I was eligible for one now, my next biggest concern was when was it going to arrive. I've been in that last 'concern' ever since.

As far as depreciation... life is depreciation, then you die. Despite the niggling issues being reported by owners, which seem to be gradually getting worked out, I still can't wait for mine to arrive. I've owned a Lotus before. I've owned British sports cars before. I currently own an Italian sports sedan. I've tried safe, sensible vehicles. The cars I remember, and remember having the most fun in, were the ones that were not so sensible. I remember spending days at friends houses, working on our sports cars. Lots of laughter, camaraderie, and occasionally some colorful metaphors along with a beer or two. Owning a sports car, especially a British sports car is being part of more than just the car.

I started my car ownership life with a British sports car, and I want to end it with one. As I drive my Emira, I will remember cars, good times, and good friends. Amidst a sea of SUV's and pickups, I will wave at the occasional Porsche, Miata or any other brand sports car, and know that we are the living example of the path not commonly taken.

To all of you who already have yours, and those still waiting delivery of their Emira, I salute you! 🍻

Very poetic, but for the sake of the future owner: please don't die in your Emira. Thanks for your understanding ;)

Don't worry, you'll get your car sooner than you think.

Oh geez lol. Of course not, certainly not planning on it! I'm not worried. By the time you reach my age, you've learned to be patient. I'm simply not planning to buy another car. I have no interest in electric, and being retired, any driving I do is either for errands or enjoyment, so the Emira will be it.

My hope is that they'll get the certifications sooner than anticipated so I can get my car before winter. As it is now, I'm expecting it in either December or January which is dead of winter here in the Pacific Northwest, which means snow and ice where I live. It would just be sitting in the garage for several months until the weather changes. If I can get it a month or two earlier, I can at least get in some driving before winter sets in.

@Eagle7 well if it does look like a winter delivery for you, feel free to have it shipped down here to me in Southern California :p. I'll be glad to get your run-in done and return it to you by Spring so you can enjoy it without any restrictions. My sacrifice in this deal would be the agony of then having to wait another year for mine to arrive (i4 ordered in March of this year).
P.S. love your poetic posts as well.
