The off topic Porsche discussion thread

Leaving the Emira for a 911, great choice... but for a boxter / cayman? Eww!!

I want to like the cayman with all my might, but it's wheelbase is just too short. Cool car but It looks too small, plain and insubstantial next to the 911. Like it's growth was stunted on purpose. Pulling up next to a 911 would be embarrassing... And the boxter gives off hair dresser vibes...

Be that as it may, the 718 is a better driving car vs 911.

The Boxster is an amazing package.
If it wasn't constantly throttled back by Porsche it would be one of the best sports cars of all time (guess it already is, but would be epic no limits) Anyways will stop going on about them 😇😅

It would be so much better if you did some research instead of posting garbage. Wheelbase is 2475mm for a 718, 2450mm for a 992 ;) Loving my 25 Year Boxster

The 911 is 50mm wider and 62mm longer than the 718 GT4.......just to put stunted in context.

Wider with bigger overhangs, that happens to the elderly. The Cayman and Boxster are still youthful and agile ;) Anyway, enough of German cars, I do hope Lotus can sort out their issues.

Well, you can go to a fancy party with an incredibly comfortable but poor looking pair of shoes, or accept some discomfort and look better. Not sure why people are so accepting of sub par design. I'm sure a lot of people here buy products that are more aesthetically pleasing, and cars are no different.

Or you can have both. I actually think the 718 looks good and is a very nice package overall.

Looks are very personal but to me 718s are just bland and have zero wow factor (for owners and fans). It almost hurts to spend that $$$ for something that looks like an old Audi TT in a parking lot.

Its good to see everyone is following Tom's request..... eh!
i thought my two dogs were disobedient .. and they are..... but you guys take the biscuit... speaking of which;
got back this evening to see two guilty looking faces and an empty bag of treats taken from my desk..now on the sofa...torn to shreads *the bag not the sofa
I think we need a thread... Emira vs the white rhino in the room.... and all those inevitable doubts and thoughts and comparisons can be dealt with there. Leonard to do the honours?

This thread should be:

Im not getting this car ..probably... as Lotus CS is...xxxxx%%$$£££
The Emira is no where near as good as my Evora ...is/was....
The delay is too long.....
I wish they'd made that gear change more rifle like...(its not rifle like!)

Not so much a debate between 2 other cars that neither of which are the emira and both are very good from a neutral ..not so neutral... point of view.
ok, ive had a bad day....evening.... im sure tomorrow will be better :)

Why is Porsche?
For some... the greatest and timeless driving machine
For some... a garage queen
For some... a VW Beetle Turbo
But... more than you can afford, pal.

If you can find a good 718 now (in this market) you could always get it and sell it after/before you get the Emira. They should hold their value pretty well if its taken care of. If going new the dealers (USA) here are adding a lot of markup. Hopefully that ends soon.
I own a 991 C4S and Porsche's are great cars and have a great dealer network etc.
I ended up buying my latest 911 certified pre owned. I found a few potentials (sold at the Porsche dealer) that the dealer would not certify under the Porsche warranty so don't think you can just have any used Porsche certified under CPO warranty. I wouldnt let that deter you from getting one if the previous owner has service records etc. Insist on a good pre purchase inspection and a DME scan

I bought the highest milage 718 S that there was, 3 4 years ago... think it had 45k in 2 years of ownership, ex demo car then customer car...
still had warranty and was extended.... I never had an issue.

I think we can safely say we would/should trust a 718 / 911 more than the emira at this point.... neither will be perfect, in that the odd 718/911 will have issues, but the EMira being a new and unknown entity will more than, much more than, likely have more issues.
Go with which ever car you like more..... but if reliability is key, then you know which way common sense would point

I have owned many Porsches and find the brand to be among the most reliable and their product backing to be among the best. I purchased a pre-owned 964 from an individual, and two years later Porsche had no problem paying for a $7k head gasket fix which they found as an issue during an oil change (was wet to the touch - I had no idea there was a problem).

Also, the air-cooled 911's are easy to work on, and as bullet proof as can be on the track. Raced for many years and reliability was never a problem.

All that said, no reason you can't have two (or more) sports car brands in the garage!

I would never buy a used GT4 unless i knew the person well.

break-in could be devasting on those screaming engines if you are a typical bro moron who flips your car

just in case there is any confusion, i am NOT comparing this car to the Emira.... never have done..... despite @Cachaco131 confusing me and @Leonard with someone else ;). Only comparable car is the Caywoman GTS, not even the GT4. we know that... Even when the AMG version hits 500 hp, for me it still wont compete so much with the GT4, as it wont be manual and wont have that flat 6 engine.... but in terms of track times and prices, then it will compete, all depends how you look at it. In fact I think the 475/500 HP AMG i4 will be more expensive that the GT4, we shall see.....
For an 80k purchase some would look at a Vantage, but clearly not a competitor in real terms, only as its 4 years old and hence price is now similar, but running costs, interior quality, engine, presence, self satisfaction ie smug feeling... all different.
Even an Alpine is not really a competitor, depending how you look at it...but its all subjective. If we look at competitors in terms of lap times, then a mini GP is probably faster around some tracks? Handmade low volume cars are too, but in terms of the vast majority of where EMira's customers would spend their money, if not with Lotus, I think we are talking porsche, Cayman or 911..... yes 911 has to be thrown in there.
Anyway, as this thread is about porsche's.... the above is a 2500 limited edition one which will again go up in value by 20/30% as soon as you get it, if you can get it. Relatively cool, but a bit futile as who in their right mind is going down a rocky mountain path with a 250k car.... unless you have several others in the garage of course.

Just been looking at this.
Completely spurious concept, but amazing in equal measure.
Made me look at the Morgans again....
