Time for new tyres/tires - What are the new options?

Hijacking this a little to talk about rain. My Emira will have the Pilot Sports (just got the email it is at the port), and I have an Elise now. Tires make a HUGE difference in rain driving for the Elise. The factory Yok's and Toyo 888's were straight up hazardous.

How bad is hydroplaning with the Pilot Sports? Thanks.

Pilot Sports or Cup 2s?

I had Pilot Sports on my M2 CS, and they were okay in rainy conditions. But Cup 2s are a different story—there’s not much tread, and if there’s a lot of water, you could slide pretty badly. Good luck!

I have cup2's on my Emira - very slippery in the rain, but I haven't experienced hydroplaning much. Need to be careful with that.

The Cup 2's that come on the car. At a 240TW they are higher rated than any track tire I use now, which are either 200TW or slicks. The center grooves does not connect to the shoulder blocks to channel water out so I expect they will be similar to the Falken Azenis RT660. Which are passable for careful rain driving, and it looks like Tire Rack's tire ratings agree. I hope the extra weight on the Emira makes it less floaty than the Elise. Maybe a second set of rims and tires are in my future?
