Hi folks,

My car insurance is up for renewal in just over a month and I’ve been getting some indicative quotes for my Emira and they’re frankly absurd: £5500/year. About 8 weeks ago I was getting quotes for purchasing the car and they were around £1200 for the same inputs.

Im aware a lot of this could be down to my circumstances but they haven’t changed for a while. Has anyone else found their premiums go up an unreasonably large amount? I’m wondering if this is Emira-specific or if it’s just me.

I visited Bradford a few times. Lambos and Ferraris can often be seen driving around. I once saw a convoy of at least 20...ill gotten gains I expect

And copied number plates. 🙄
I knew a couple of blokes who actually did this, they had the exact same cars, so ran with the same number plates. Being friends, they eventually parked next to each other having completely forgotten not to.
Some passerby noticed, reported it and the 2 of them had an interesting conversation with the Police. One pleaded ignorance, the other got the full weight of the law down on him. IIRC, he lost his license for a year

lol. Those guys deserved to get caught.

That goes to explain a fair bit of it, I wonder if insurers have had to pay out for anything on these cars recently?

I live in a bit of West Coventry called Tile Hill. I haven't heard much about (car) thefts or any crime in the area recently but maybe there's something to look into (crime rates).

For further context on my situation: I'm 29 with a clean license. My partner is a named driver but we aren't living together (yet, that'll change in ~6 months) and I am not a home owner (yet). I know I'm not in a "good" bracket for insurance on a performance car and I accept there's a price to pay here, but that doesn't explain why I was previously quoted £1200 for 1 year of insurance and now it's £5500.

Admiral (my current provider) are quoting £3000ish for a new black box plan which isn't ideal but I can stomach that over £5500. I've previously had a black box in another car and I can live with being boring with the car for a few months while I've got the box installed. I am also going to get quotes with a few of the more specialist insurers (Manning etc) to see if there's anything there.

Thanks to all of you for your time so far! I really appreciate it.
I am with Admiral and have multi car and the i4 emira for me was £423 (53 clean licence) living in Glasgow. Crazy differences around the country.

Similar situation, I4, Admiral Multi Car, 60yrs old(god that hurts) clean licence, South Coast £550, full NCB

Not great but sounds like it could have been a lot worse. Insurance craziness and the new first year VED must be making a big dent in new car sales going forward.
Thats the governments plan, as it relates to first year VED, they want less petrol cars registered

Some good news here finally. My renewal is down from nearly £1,000 this year to £750 next year. However, I am getting £508 from Santander on Meerkats which is far more plateable and nearly £200 less than the RS3.

Think I got mine down by putting all 3 cars (BMW, TT and Emira on a multicar policy but looking at my portal on Admiral I have no idea where it says what I paid. I think it was £6-700. (My evora S was £330 ten years ago so prob not too unreasonable)

The Admiral portal is not good for working out what each policy costs, they just present you with the one price for all of it.
Best way I found was to call them and have them itemise it

My renewal came through today at £416 with Adrian Flux, down form £516 last year and pretty much matches my first year premium. That for 6k miles, garaged and full ncb. I will still shop around a little though.
