Water drains into the engine bay if hatch is opened when car is wet?

Holy moly that Emira looks smoking hot!!!! I cannot WAIT till March when I am supposed to get mine!!!! Wish I would have went with blue...Owell!

Pretty much all Mid engined cars do the same. Had the same problem with my 1995 Toyota MR2 SW20! When the boot opened, water just dripped into the boot 😂. The alternator would seize after a wet winter, as the water dripped into the engine bay over the alternator!! It was PITA!

imagine how much more smoking hot it will look when a gallon of water drips onto the hot engine and manifold 😂

Dont plan on taking it out in the rain ;). The Elise does it as well, no issues with it for years.

Water and bugs and small animals can / will find their way in. No different from any other car.

Not sure if this was covered here yet, but I was able to go see the car over at Lotus Haese near Frankfurt this week. It had been raining and the car was wet.

When I lifted the rear hatch, a good amount of water drained directly into the engine bay… this wasn’t an issue as the car wasn’t warm, but if the engine was hot it could be a problem.

Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this happen? Either way the car was great and has rekindled my excitement. Seeing it in person definitely helps mitigate the frustration of knowing I’ll have waited over 25 months since placing a deposit (assuming no further delays).
Same with the Evora and water ingress into the engine bay.

Hi,

apologies for resurrecting this old thread, but I had a real flood after my first car wash.

After I hosed the car down, I didn't just have water flowing all over the engine and into the boot from the rear spoiler, but it also drained from within the frame of the boot lid. I had water coming out from where the screws hold the boot hinges for at least 5 -10 minutes afterwards.

Does anyone else have that? Also noticed a smell like in a boat, like epoxy...

I don't have any experience with this, but did you attempt to tighten those bolts? They look stripped! You shouldn't have any water inside the hatch.

Not only do they look stripped, the torque marks aren't aligned anymore.

You mean you had water trapped inside the boot lid, and it came out of the hinges when you opened the boot all the way?

Yes, lots of water came out by where the screws are
Yes I have the same white spots pretty much on every bolt/hinge when opening the hood.. lotus told me it could be due to pressure wash with hard water :s

Hard water makes sense.
I have one of these "spotless" filters on my hose line.
Works really well.
For the most part I try to use water-less wash or a quick detailer to keep the dust and light dirt off.
But sometimes you just can't avoid using a hose.
In that case I TRY to not get too much water into any of the openings/vents on the car.
There are just sooooo many opening in this car that water can get into.

This is wild. Does that mean all of our boot lids have water in them and only some drain through the screw holes? How is water even getting into the boot lid? So confused- at least this car looks awesome, you just can’t really wash it, lol.

This is my concern with using a leaf blower to dry the car after a wash - I'm worried we're pushing water into places it shouldn't go. On a "normal" car this wouldn't concern me, but the Emira seems to have some water ingress issues.
