*waves hand* This is not the red you’re looking for…

I think we need to withhold judgement on magma red for the time being. As yet, we only have a disk with concave and convex surfaces. We don’t have the true color on a car with all its curves, creases, flats and accessories. How those will impact our impression is still an open question for me. I’m hopeful that the color mimics that which we’ve seen on the most recent renders from @Eagle7. They seem to closely approximate fire red and canyon red metallic, which to mee look like deeper red versions of soul red. Let’s see how things play out on a real car.

As well as the disk we've also seen the speedform, which gives a reasonable idea of what it looks like on a complex shape

How would the lotus rep know that magma is the same color as fire red? Seems to me the only way to know this is to know the mix color codes and proportions. I like fire red, so hope they’re right. But this seems like pretty specific info for the reps to know when they haven’t exactly been bastions of accuracy in the past according to some of the past chatter.
I assumed he may know since he had an English accent and worked for Lotus. He also mentioned that Dark Verdant is Empire Green, Nimbus is Evora Silver, Hethel Yellow was a current non-metallic yellow from the Evora, and the dark gray was Dark Grey Metallic - I don’t remember the actual names of the yellow and dark grey as I wasn’t interested in them. He said the blue wasn’t an Evora color. Maybe he was just appeasing a yank after getting that question a zillion times over the road show….. After comparing the colors he mentioned, they all looked spot on, except for Nimbus. I thought it looked like Signature Silver from the E400.

Yup....and over here in the states, I was told the same thing by my dealer after the Vegas meeting.
Pasted and copied from the email I received:

Paint Color Comparisons & Info:
  • Hethel Yellow -> Evora 400 'Solid Yellow'
  • Magma Red -> Evora GT 'Fire Red'
  • Nimbus Grey -> Evora Silver
  • Shadow Grey -> Dark Metallic Grey
  • Eventually there will be a total of 13 colors - including white & black

I've mentioned this multiple times yet people still seem to question it, even after seeing the disk against Fire Red itself. Maybe everyone is hoping it isn't fire red in the end...??

Yep, I think earlier red renders suggested it would be quite a bright red (I even played around with it in Photoshop myself). The actual colour feels so much less exciting… reminds me of the Nissan Bluebird my folks bought in the 80s. I desperately want the FE, but am now wondering if I should hold out until 2023 for Argent Red…

Oh trust me...that's been a constant battle in my head as well. I just already feel like we've been waiting a lifetime and we still have probably a year before any of us get an FE. I may be able to hold out for a base just to get the other colors but man! I just don't know!!

Everything still says “Spring 2022” which ends 6/20/2022…

6 month countdown anyone? ;)

Mine too. ZX turbo red

June 2022 delivery for me and several other UK early adopters. The wait will feel like 6 years though!

See this is a concern for me (although not unexpected) and why I just wish Lotus would be upfront and consistent in their information.
Unlike most I've not really had much of an issue choosing colour as it's been Nimbus from the beginning. However... if it does prove to be 'just' Evora Silver, I'm not interested.

Right. The US Configurator says Spring… That needs an update for sure.
These pics were taken 12/29/2021.

I'm exactly in the same page, Nimbus but please not standard silver!

A brighter metallic red may have done it for me, but Washington Football Team” red- yuck. A bright yellow-green, orange or lavender metallic would have been great. These were meant to be “safe” color choices and it’s a bit disappointing. Unfortunately, there’s a reason why most Porsches are in a shade of silver, black or white….

I’m sure there will be some awesome colors coming once the Emira is established!!!

Does anyone know how to communicate with Lotus directly? There may be scope to (politely) suggest a brighter red is needed — with their new paint facilities it may be possible.

Mate the colours are the colours. Not sure why people keep jumping up and down about the same thing. Life is simple don’t like don’t buy…. It gets boring hearing the same thing over and over…. It’s a totally new realm for the company embrace as is or simply don’t. Take your hard earned money elsewhere…. Best wishes in what you decide and HNY….

I want to hear that call though!

Caller: “yes. Brighter red please”
Lotus: “huh?”

Caller: “Yes. A few of us would like the red to be like fire red from Evora”
Lotus: “Yeah? We’ve got another guy on hold who’d like it more Maroon-like”

Caller: “I’m on this forum and we took a poll…”
Lotus: “so you’ve seen the car?”

Caller: “well no”
Lotus: “thanks for the call”

I would love to hear it all!

A number of people (me included) asked if the only non-metallic colour (Hethel Yellow) could be done as a metallic and were told no. I heard a long explanation about why and the overall approach to ramping up the new paint facility.

The FE colours won't change. There will be a further 7 colours at some point - maybe for the i4 FE but certainly for Base Edition cars. That will include a second red and my guess is it will be a solid red, perhaps close to the Ardent Red used on Elise/Exige/Evora.

Eventually the Bespoke service will be re-launched and you'll be able to pay a premium to have nearly any colour (previously it had to be a Dupont paint). But I don't see that being available until well in to 2023.

What was the old Lotus price for custom paint Tom, out of interest?

£2-5k depending on whether it was solid, metallic, pearlescent or a complex multi-layer. You could also specify stripes or two-tone upper/lower (like the old Sprints) and heritage schemes like the JPS Type 72 with gold coachlines and logos.
