You may want to hedge a bit against the possiblity that the latch itself may be defective. In that case there's a real possibility that you might not be able to re-close the boot lid after opening it. If your dealer isn't genuinely inconvenient to visit, it may be a safer bet to take the car to them for diagnosis and resolution, rather than having a car with a rear hatch that won't close and a need to then transport it for service.
I mean, personally I would cowboy it and see what happens. But no smart person should attempt to emulate my decision-making, it's consistently dodgy.
