I am always conflicted on these issues. I am by no means a purist and think, "Hey, you do you." However, I wonder about the risk. Even though I hate to do it, I have to make an analogy and also be a total hypocrite. Assuming you have the V6/Manual, the Emira is a swan song for DIY driving, and it is intended to be what it is. Replacing/adding body/engine mods (here comes the analogy) feels like a mistake. As a watch collector, I want everything unmolested, record-keeping, and original. The quickest way to devalue a fine timepiece is to swap dials and ice it out with diamonds. Once you do that, you harm the "perceived" integrity of the timepiece. That's how I feel about the V6/Manual. Now for some total hypocrisy.
When it comes to the 4-cyl/Auto, I say mod the hell out of it. Have a ball. Yes I am aware my stance is pretty irrational. But 10 years from now, that V6/Manual will retain the most value if it's reasonably unmolested. Just a gut reaction. A big part comes from rebuilding my 911; some things I have had to sort out are so dumb and dangerous that I doubt every bolt on it. I don't want to buy an unknown history car ever again because you don't know what the person before did, and most of all, you don't know if they did it well.
