What other “raw” cars have you owned ?

That’s an amazing line up, I’m from Somerset originally, great to see the fanbase of these things is international. I used to do some early morning ‘runs’ when I was younger and more foolish in my z4m so a bunch of us would head out at 5am or earlier and basically hammer it around the countryside before anyone got up…following one of these things was a blast though the owner did admit he was absolutely freezing

at the time I was enjoying my heated seats!

You guuuuuuyyyss! You've had some serious weapons!
For me it was a Nissan navara pick up truck to ferrari F430! Well I still have pick up trucks for work. But thata where my fancy car ownership starts and ends!
But what a choice. Driven a lot of other friends stuff now. And although some are great, when it comes to value, I don't see how 430 can be beaten.
Emira will sit alongside so emira for as often as possible, and 430 for when the sun is truly blazing as it a spider!

Interestingly I'm considering a 430 in place of the Emira for a year.

What are the big services with one?jve Read its an annual service or 12500 miles,roughly a gbp1400 a time-is there anything to look out for?

TBH, I'm not massively knowledgeable on this front...I have used an independent guy since I bought it 7 years ago. I just send it to him once a year (2020 excluded due to covid). He services and tells me what needs to happen and done what we agree is necessary. There are 3 levels of service I believe, ranging from £600-£1500 with my indy guy.

For me, I have been amazed at the LOW cost of ownership with it. Albeit, my guy tells me mine is a very good example....'06 now 34k. I bought it with 18k. Had some springs and seals and bushes I think.

I did have 2 gearbox issues. One was gear selector sensor which was luckily done on warranty as soon as I got it. The other was lose actuator screws. This was done at a Ferrari garage and cost a few ££.

Apparently there is a worry on the exhaust manifold cracking. I haven't had mine done. But there are comments online about some issue.

I couldn't recommend one more. Hope that helps

The 430 is an absolutely cracking car. I'm interested though: why the Emira as well? What would make you choose to drive the Emira over the Ferrari?

I couldn't answer this question, so went for an Elise instead.

Well, my main reasons are...
1. tracking, which I won't do much of, but would like to do some. I have put my f430 round a few, but she's tapping on a bit now so I feel like I'm miss treating her after a little while!
2. Having a wet weather/winter sports car.
3. Wanting something a bit modern for european road trips. I do a yearly trip to Germany/West France which totals about 2k. Just nice to have something that doesn't rattle as much and has some modernity to it.
4. I don't want to sell my f430. I used it as my wedding car and was my first sports car so has sentimentality attached.
5. I could sell f430 and put it together with Emira budget but aside from 4. I don't really want to be driving around in something £150/160k+ as I'd like to not be precious about these things. And tbh, too many people reaffirm my feelings of newer more supercar level is just too easy to lose your licence when you start using the cars potential. I'd prefer to have to drive something I have to be involved with.

I do keep wondering if its worth it, but I've just reminded myself it is....thanks!

for me, the emira over an elise/exige for aesthetics and 3. above

Two come to mind from my past cars.
Both no ABS or power steering. Definitely in the raw category.
5 spd manual, one FWD, one RWD.
Both (just) over 100hp. Way shy of "raw" power.
GTI (MK2) had very little brake-boost as well!

'85 Golf GTI and '85 Toyota MR2.

So much fun, including a club track day at Castle Coombe with the GTI.
Mr2 had proper mid-engone handling for $700 (high mileage)

Nothing too "raw" or remotely exciting compared to some of the amazing vehicles referenced in this thread, but this 2nd Gen Mr2 was my baby in college 13 years-ish ago. Definitely the one car that I regretted selling until today, even though I owned several other fun cars over the years. And that's why I've already made up my mind to proceed with Magma Red and black wheels when it's my turn for the allocation! Except for the T-Top, The Emira ticks all boxes and more!

Beautiful... Residing in North America, the closest I've gotten to a TVR Cerbera was on Gran Turismo. It must have been a blast to drive.
