So for a while now I've been pondering about mounting the front number plate at a slightly leaned back angle, rather than on the original plinth that came with the car. Wondering if that might lessen the impact of the front plate.
I have a 3d printer to hand so set out to design and build something to try out my idea and see how it looks.
This is the result
After a few trial runs, I managed to get a pretty good result for a new mount to go on the car, and, with some TPU to hand also printed a gasket for it to soften the plastic against the paintwork (or PPF in my case)
To this, then attaches the actual number plate mount itself, which was printed as a separate piece and screwed onto the sides of the mount piece using some M4s and nyloc nuts.
I made it in 2 pieces one to make it easier to print, and 2 so that you can make sure you line up the plate on the plinth correctly, much easier when not on the car!
I think I quite like the look of this, but have had mixed opinions from others, my partner commented it looks like it's fallen off
I'm curious, has anyone else been thinking about doing the same? What do people think?
I plan to live with it like this for a bit and see how I feel, initially I think it's great, but it may wear off and I may go back to vertical
Oh and btw, this adds 180g of lightness compared to the original mount
