Alternate configurator renders of the other 4 FE colors

But I'm still back at the issue of using images from a web browser as reference images, that I know the web browser has diminished because it doesn't have the extended color space capability my computer does. Under those conditions, there's simply no way I can 100% get an accurate color representation, which is why I say what I've created is at best maybe 95% close. That's close enough though to get a reasonable idea of how these colors are going to look on the cars.

Eagle - as someone who has worked in the professional photography world and dealt with image comparisons you are dealing with many different variables not the least of which is that 99% of people have not color balanced their monitors as we probably have (I hope you have) so even if your image is perfect on your screen it may look very different on others

The things that you should be doing is taking color samples hopefully from a raw image with a grey reference (a MUST for color balance correction) for color balance. You can work in adobe full rgb color space but make sure your final exports are in sRGB for web use. You could output and send by private message full adobe color space images which will be more accurate but ONLY to someone who understands how to properly view such images and to someone that won’t repost them.

That looks amazing, @Eagle7 ! I was curious what you think of the red sample that appears in the recent Shmee video shared by @GreenDeal - https://www.emiraforum.com/threads/order-placed-post-your-—final—-spec-here.557/post-9889 (video screen grab below). It seems much more of a bright red than what we had seen before, but may just be the direct sunlight effect. No matter what, Magma Red is it for me (w/ BP, yellow calipers, red-stitched alcantra interior). I just can't wait to see a real car in red!

I’ve seen the disk and it’s definitely a very dark red (about as close to the current Fire Red as possible). These photos that show a brighter red are a combination of reflected lighting and colour correction by the phone cameras… absolutely incorrect.

Compare that with my photo of the exact same sample on the same day but outside and showing the convex surface - the red is darker and the metallic more obvious

And next to a Fire Red Exige, which we know is probably the closest match of an existing colour:

Thanks! I would say that is pretty conclusive, so I will just continue to sit back and enjoy the amazing 3D renders in all their glory. I do really like the deeper metallic red. I think it will make for a somewhat more unique appearance on the Emira vs. "look, I'm a Ferrari" (although as others have said, it's going to be an inevitable comparison for most onlookers no matter the color shade). I really cannot wait to see an actual Magma Red Emira with black pack - I think it's going to be pretty stunning. Hopefully they will trot one out sooner than later.

I'd originally posted the links because people were asking about previous Lotus colours as possibilities when Lotus add to the colour options. But here goes:

Shadow Grey: not previously a Lotus colour but apparently is close to a Porsche colour

Seneca Blue: not previously a Lotus colour but is quite close to Porsche Shark Blue and VW Cornflower Blue

Magma Red: very similar to Fire Red, used recently on the Exige, Elise and Evora

Nimbus Grey: similar to Evora Silver and Signature Silver used on the Evora; looks very close to McLaren Blade Silver

Verdant Green: almost identical to Empire Green/Imperial Green used on the Lotus Carlton and Evora

Hethel Yellow: very close to Saffron Yellow and Solar Yellow

Is Seneca Blue the same as Daytona Blue Evora?

Is Seneca Blue the same as Daytona Blue Evora?
To my eyes it looks very close to Daytona, although Daytona is flat rather than metallic.

A few years back I went to the Jim Clark memorial event in Duns and there must have been 100+ Lotus cars parked around town in every possible colour. On the day I decided that Daytona (on an Evora) was my favorite of the lot, with Norfolk Mustard a close second. So, I'm happy to be going for Seneca :)

Seneca looks a tad lighter in the pics below, but in real life I reckon there probably isn't much in it.

That launch Emira looks 10x better with the lowered suspension and wheel spacers. That's how I want mine to look! Though I'm sure you would lose the ride/handling quality. Don't know why they can't just design the wheel-wells to look this way with the normal suspension.

It does look

lighter than that in person. Still lovely though.

Testing all kinds of things. Improving textures and texture mapping. Getting rid of excessive grain in the color. Also put together a garage wall scene just for some visual interest.

This is really nice rendering and compositing work. Do you do this professionally? The car looks excellent. If Lotus had put this quality of view in the configurator I think the angst about colors would have been much lower.

Random selfish question... would you be willing to modify this render and throw a set of silver Panasports or Watanabes on it to see what they look like? A set of banana spokes might give this a future-retro vibe, or it might look ridiculous. Either way, I'm here for it.

Example silver Watanabe F8 in 18" below. Compared to the factory wheel this would be a little smaller visually in the wheel arch with a meatier tire, so more of a serious motorsport look (to me).

Additional images of the 18" (in grey) available here and here.

Thanks!!

From magma red disc indoors, out in the sun and placed on Fire Red Exige , where it was a very close match, then I would say photos such as they represent pretty well the colour you will end up with .

Notice the difference in overcast conditions vs sunlight where it pops

This is a tough color to replicate. Based on the above photos, this is as close as I've been able to come.

Thank you! No I don't do this professionally, just as a hobby interest. Yeah I agree, which was why I went to the trouble to do these, so people would have a much better idea what their choices would look like.

I looked into the Panasports and Watanabes, even Enkei RPF1 wheels and none of those go above 18" it seems. I don't think 18's will fit over the brakes on this car. Here's a picture of the front, and as you can see, the back of the caliper doesn't leave much room between it and the wheel. It looks like 19's might fit, but it would be tight and depend on the design of the wheel. The factory wheel sizes are 20x10 in the back, and 20x8.5 in the front. Bolt pattern is 5x114.3, but I don't know the offset. Haven't been able to find that out yet.

After being frustrated with the lack of accuracy and/or realism with the official configurator, I decided to buy a 3D model of the Emira and come up with my own. These are my 4 best guesses for Magma Red, Hethel Yellow, Dark Verdant and Nimbus Grey. Nimbus is the one I've been having the most trouble with believe it or not, even though Dark Verdant was a royal pain to get more or less close to the samples we've seen. I'm still working with Nimbus but this is where it's at for the moment.

This is in a simulated outdoor setting with natural sunlight. All 4 of these are the same other than paint color, i.e. Black Pack, tan leather seats, silver forged wheels, yellow calipers. I'll do some more with different caliper colors, black wheels, diamond cut, and different angles, etc. but this is to start. I'll also do some in a studio light setting, as well as maybe inside a parking garage or something like that.

The idea here is to give people a more realistic idea of how the other FE colors we haven't seen on a car might actually look on the car. I'm not claiming these are absolutely accurate, but I think they're not too far off.

(I should mention that the model was created by 3D SQUIR and I did all the textures, colors, etc.)

Fabulous work, but I think the colors are off. I went to the Indy event and they had paint samples there. The red and green are much darker than these images and the yellow had an orange-ish tint. One of the Lotus reps said that the factory was in process of producing one Emira in each color combination. That's what I can't wait to see.

IMHO the blue is a trendy color, so I'll skip that one. I'd go for red or green, but not if they are as dark as they appear everywhere I've seen them (paint samples and Lotus' configurator). Light gray? Silver would've been better. Dark gray? Black would've been better. So I'm going for Hethel Yellow, but only because it doesn't come in Chrome Orange like my Elise SC!

I think you've pretty much nailed the red. It's very close to the real thing.
Sadly, I'm afraid that Verdant Green is still darker than in your render. I only wish it looked as good as you make it!
I guess it's hard to make the render show how easily Verdant flops to black.
