Altura vs Emira (Just the looks)

The artura has better overall proportions. If the emira had a longer wheel base and larger over hangs with the same design I think it would be perfection. Now it’s just close to it :)
This is the sports car vs. supercar thing. The Emira has supercar cues but has sports car dimensions, meaning shorter wheelbase and overall length in conjunction with a higher, more practical roofline. This is why I chose the blackpack option, to visually reduce the height of the car. I am mostly into 50's and 60's European sports cars so I may be biased, but for a modern car the Emira is very beautiful and may prove to be timeless.

I did the same with the black roof for that reason 🤝

Seeing the Artura in person, my first thought was that it looks good and has a few similar design cues as the Emira. My second thought was that the Emira looks better overall - better proportions and more alluring curves from the profile angles. I spoke to the McLaren reps for a hour and decided that I'll test drive the Artura in the near future but my Emira will always be a keeper.

I never noticed this before, but after liking the looks of the Emira, I realize now that most "supercars" have a longer body design and next to the Emira it seems odd to me now. Hell, even the Corvette Z06 has this. I assume this longer design is to accommodate having an 8 cylinder engine in the back.

The proportions of the Emira do look a bit “baby supercar”, but oddly, I think the shorter length is actually what makes this design superior (to my eye) to darn near all mid-engined cars on the road today.

Most mid engine cars look inherently a bit goofy in profile from the rear of the door to mid rear wheel well. I think this has to do with the length needed to accommodate a longitudinally mounted engine. The R8 is a great example of this. I think the Audi stylists were clever in the way they managed that space with the Blade or whatever they called it. The Ferrari 458 in profile is another good example of this. It’s just a bit too long in the rear 1/2 of the car.

The Lamborghini Miura, like the Emira, has a transversely mounted engine. This arrangement allows for a more compact rear length, and better balance and proportion. I think this is why the Miura is such a timeless design.

McLaren and other mid-engine supercars look more exotic and dramatic, however I don’t think the design is actually better. It’s almost like a supermodel- the proportions are rare and dramatic, striking even. But up close, in person, it can look like all of the parts don’t quite match up, the normal proportions are a bit “off”. Big eyes that are striking in a print advertisement may be a bit too piercing in person.

Indeed. In fact, I think that may be why I love the design of the Ferrari 308 and 328 so much. Having the transverse engine helps a lot.

This is as close as it comes to perfection

Well, it's a subjective thing. Personally, I never really liked the 458's looks. I just like the engine noise.

Agree to disagree. It's a pretty car, and I wouldn't turn one down if someone offered to give me one.

However, the rear styling is unresolved, and it looks too long in the middle.

Also, I'm not sure I actually like the interior.

But, that's just like my opinion, man.
