Something else to remember is the Emira isn't the beginning of a new era in ICE cars for Lotus, it's their last ICE car. It's also intended to demonstrate their new era focus on usability and quality, which will be the standard for their electric cars. They've chosen to start that new era, by putting the last of their 'old' era in the new package as a way of commemorating and saying goodbye to the old, while they get the systems and processes for their new era underway.

It's an interesting way of making the change-over though, as the V6 is truly from their old era, but the AMG i4/DCT is a new example of old era technology they've never used before.

Yup that is very true.
As they focused new Lotus as "forthedrivers" I saw it the other way in that this would be a last hoorah to show what they could do from a performance and dynamics perspective with money and backing.

Oh I have no doubt the Type 135 is going to out-perform the Emira in every way, except for sound. Sound is one of the reasons why I want an Emira. It's for the number 3 reason in this video:
